If you took a poll just a year or two ago asking people if they knew who Uzo Aduba was, I'm fairly certain that only a select group of Godspell-loving Broadway buffs would be able to answer that question with a confident 'yes.' If you were to take that same poll today, however, the answer would likely be quite different, thanks to a little show called ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK. Oh, how quickly things change in Hollywood!

Single (non-subscription) tickets for the 2015–16 Season in Weill Hall at Sonoma State University's Green Music Center go on sale today, Monday, August 24, 2015 to MasterCard cardholders and Monday, August 31, 2015 to the general public. The 2015–16 MasterCard Performance Series in Weill Hall features 39 performances by world-class musicians spanning the genres of classical, chamber, vocal, keyboard, jazz and world music.
InViolet Theater Company's SOMMERFUGL Begins Next Month

InViolet Theater Company, under the direction of Founding Co-Artistic Directors Michael Henry Harris and Angela Razzano, In association with Melanie Maras, Bryan Tallevi and Andrea Kiefer have announced the off-off Broadway run of SOMMERFUGL, a new play written by Bixby Elliot inspired by the true story of Lili Elbe, the first person to have gender reassignment surgery in 1930. The production begins previews September 19 at the 4th Street Theater (83 East 4th Street) and will have its official opening on September 24. Stephen Brackett directs. www.InViolettheater.com

We all understand the power of media well. It's impact on our daily lives is undeniable. The influence it has on adults, teenagers, and even children is immeasurable. The right kind of representation in television, film or music can be substantial for people growing up LGBTQA. The importance of representation in mainstream media is definitely not something that should be ignored or forgotten.
