Yale School of Drama (James Bundy, Dean; Victoria Nolan, Deputy Dean) has just announced their 2009-10 season, three plays that offer radically different, and equally provocative, views on what it means-and what it costs-to desire, to love, and to be truly alive: PHÈDRE by Jean Racine, LA RONDE by Arthur Schnitzler, and Virginia Woolf?s ORLANDO adapted by Sarah Ruhl.

Harlem Stage?s new music series Uptown Nights at Harlem Stage, which debuts Sept. 26, reaches back to the time when uptown was the place to seek out the next big thing in music, and to hear top artists of the time play in settings where socializing, and community building, was paramount.

Academy Award nominated director Spike Lee, the award winning Culture Project, Steve Colman and Jayson Jackson in association with The Public Theater present County of Kings. Written and performed by Lemon Andersen (Russell Simmons Def Poetry Jam), and directed by Elise Thoron, County of Kings begins performances Tuesday, September 29 for a six week limited engagement at The Public Theater, 425 Lafayette Street.

Producer John Breglio and the Apollo Theater Foundation, Inc. announced today that tickets for the smash hit musical Dreamgirls at the Apollo Theater go on sale Friday, April 17 at 10am. The national tour of Dreamgirls will premiere at the legendary Apollo Theater (253 West 125 Street) for a four-week limited engagement November 7 through December 5. Originally, it was named Hurtig and Seamon's New Burlesque Theatre and African-Americans were not allowed in the audience. In 1934: Ralph Cooper, Sr. decided to do a live version of his already popular radio show, Amateur Nite Hour at the ApolloTM, at the Apollo Theater, then owned by the Schiffman family. Ella Fitzgerald, who invented the vocal technique known as 'SCAT', was one of the first Amateur Night winners. Returning to Cleveland after acclaimed performances in The Color Purple on Broadway and Gone with the Wind in London?s West End, NaTasha Yvette Williams takes the stage in the lead role of The Cleveland Play House production of Mahalia: A Gospel Musical. Since 1997, when she performed in The Play House production of (I Could) Stop On a Dime and Get Ten Cents Change, Williams has also played in several Broadway national tours and performed her gospel music all over the world. Kent Gash, Associate Artistic Director of The Alliance Theatre in Atlanta, GA, is directing Williams in this musical tribute to the most celebrated gospel singer of all time. Today, an Equity casting notice was put up for a revival of the musical Dreamgirls. According to the notice, rehearsals will begin September 21, 2009 with performances starting in early November 2009.
