Casting has been announced for the World Premiere of THE BABY DANCE: MIXED, a new adaptation by Emmy Award-winner JANE ANDERSON ("Olive Kitteridge") of her acclaimed 2004 play The Baby Dance. A drama delicately laced with comic overtones, THE BABY DANCE: MIXED is a compelling and urgent play about race, class, and wanting the perfect child. In the story, Regina and Richard, an affluent mixed-race couple in Los Angeles, have everything except a baby. Wanda and Al, an African-American couple living in an overcrowded trailer in modern-day Louisiana, are too poor to keep their soon-to-be-born child. Through an adoption attorney, the two couples broker a deal. However, circumstances arise that affect their decision and the situation spins out of control. The Wall Street Journal described The Baby Dance as "filled with emotional power and nimble humor." The L.A. Times called it "a stunner…funny as well as perceptive."

Sobini Films announced today that Dayo Okeniyi has been cast as the lead in the Civil War-era historical drama EMPEROR, to be directed by Mark Amin, the veteran producer and former Vice Chairman of Lionsgate. The film will be produced by Reginald Hudlin for Hudlin Entertainment and by Cami Winikoff and Amin for Sobini, with a script co-written by Amin and Pat Charles. Sobini's Tyler Boehm is executive producing. UTA is handling domestic sales. EMPEROR is scheduled to go into production in June in Savannah, Georgia.
The Archer School for Girls hosted its seventh annual Archer Film Festival, empowering female filmmakers and featuring award-winning actress Laura Dern as the keynote speaker. Festival organizers received over 680 student-produced film submissions from 65 countries around the world. Celebrities, media, and the public viewed screenings of finalist films at The Writers Guild Theater in Culver City after a pink carpet reception. According to Variety, the cast for "Big Little Lies" continues to grow.The second season of the HBO drama is bringing back Kathryn Newton as Abigail Carlson, Robin Weigert as Dr. Amanda Reisman, Sarah Sokolovic as Tori Bachman, and Merrin Dungey as Detective Adrienne Quinlan. In addition, Newton and Sokolovic have been upped to series regulars while Dungey and Weigert will recur. Season 2 will also see the additions of Crystal Fox as Elizabeth Howard, and Mo McRae as Michael Perkins. Fox will be a series regular and McRae will recur.
According to Deadline, actor Douglas Smith is set to join the cast of HBO's BIG LITTLE LIES when it returns its second season. He will play a new character named Corey Brockfield, who works with Shailene Woodley's Jane. He joins season two with the previously announced Meryl Streep.
