Broadway to Dim Lights Tonight in Honor of Larry Gelbart

The Broadway community mourns the loss of multiple Tony Award-winning librettist, Larry Gelbart, whose work was seen on Broadway for over four decades. Also a playwright and a screenwriter for TV and movies, Mr. Gelbart died on September 11th at his home in Beverly Hills, California at the age of 81.

Goodspeed Musicals, the only two time Tony Award winning theatre in the country, is proud to announce the cast of A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. This hilarious musical comedy of errors from the director who brought you Goodspeed's On the Twentieth Century and Promises, Promises will run from Sept. 25 - Nov. 29 at the Goodspeed Opera House in East Haddam, Conn. PICT artistic director Andrew S. Paul directs a cast of thirteen in the Pittsburgh professional premiere of Alan Bennett's award-winning play The History Boys. Very funny and deeply moving, the play explores the anarchy of adolescence, the nature of history, and the methods and very purpose of education today. Featured in the production are Bernard Cuffling, Linda Kimbrough, Dave Droxler and Andy Lutz.

Rubicon Theatre Company has announced the cast and creative team for the World Premiere of THE BEST IS YET TO COME: THE MUSIC OF CY COLEMAN, which began previews July 9 at Rubicon's intimate 200-seat home at 1006 E. Main Street in Ventura's Downtown Cultural District. The show continues Wednesdays through Sundays through August 2, 2009.

Two-time Tony Award-winning actress Judith Ivey will portray that great woman of American letters -- letters from readers seeking advice, that is -- when she plays the legendary, trailblazing columnist Ann Landers in David Rambo's play The Lady With All The Answers Off-Broadway this fall, starting performances October 7, 2009 at the Cherry Lane Theatre (38 Commerce Street) in New York City. B.J. Jones directs. The production will run through November 29. Opening night is October 14.

A film adaptation of Cy Coleman's CITY OF ANGELS is headed to the screen, to be helmed by Director Barry Levinson ('Wag the Dog', 'Good Morning, Vietnam'). The picture is one of many new projects to be produced by new company Unique Features, headed by former New Line Films principals Bob Shaye and Michael Lynne, Variety reported today.

Three classic shows from some of Broadway's most legendary creators will comprise Reprise Theatre Company's 2010 season. For his second season, Artistic Director Jason Alexander has chosen 'Carousel,' 'A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum,' and 'How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying' at UCLA's Freud Playhouse. As a prelude to the season, Reprise will present a celebration of Richard Rodgers, the father of the American musical, in venues all over Los Angeles during Fall, 2009.

Goodspeed Musicals, under the leadership of Michael P. Price, is pleased to announce the 2009 musical season at the Goodspeed Opera House in East Haddam, Conn.
