Fellow writers, family, friends, and fans of WGAW member Larry Gelbart, one of television's most prolific comedy writers, will unite on Thursday, Dec. 10, to celebrate the life and times of the beloved writer and producer. Gelbart, who passed away in September, developed the long-running television series M*A*S*H, receiving several Writers Guild Awards, an Emmy, a Humanitas, and a Peabody award for his work on the acclaimed show.

Last week, the Broadway community mourned the loss of multiple Tony Award-winning librettist, screenwriter and author Larry Gelbart, who died at his home in Beverly Hills on September 11 at the age of 81. This week, Mike Sacks of Vanity Fair released an except from one of the last interviews ever conducted with the legend for Sacks' book: 'And Here's the Kicker: Conversations with 21 Humor Writers on Their Craft' (Writers Digest Books).

Very funny and deeply moving, the play explores the anarchy of adolescence, the nature of history, and the methods and very purpose of education today. A film adaptation of Cy Coleman's CITY OF ANGELS is headed to the screen, to be helmed by Director Barry Levinson ('Wag the Dog', 'Good Morning, Vietnam'). The picture is one of many new projects to be produced by new company Unique Features, headed by former New Line Films principals Bob Shaye and Michael Lynne, Variety reported today.
