UM Theatre & Dance Stages BOOK OF DAYS, Now thru 3/14

The University of Montana will offer Book of Days, a comic drama from Lanford Wilson, one of the masters of modern and contemporary American theater. Book of Days runs in the Masquer Theatre of the Performing Arts and Radio/Television Center on campus today, March 4-8 and March 11-14 at 7:30 pm. The production will close with a matinee performance on Saturday, March 15 at 2:00 pm.

Writers Lab, the largest collective of Asian-American playwrights in the country, continues its annual tradition of presenting a 'stunt' event, announcing today that this year's evening of brand-new short plays centered around a contemporary, pressing theme will be held at the Mainstage Theater at Playwrights Horizons. The event, called Mga Kasabihan, which is Tagalog for Words of Wisdom, will be a benefit for recovery efforts in the Philippines.

The celebrated, award-winning downtown film/theater cooperative The Paradise Factory will re-open following a 2-year, $4 million renovation with the world premiere of Tom Noonan's comedy the SHAPE of SOMETHING SQUASHED. Preview performances are February 17 and 18 prior to the official press opening February 26, 2014 at the new Paradise Factory venue, 64E4 (64 East 4th St.) in Manhattan. One of the highlights of the renovation is the addition of a new performance space, giving The Paradise Factory two performance spaces for the first time in its 30-year history.

Actor and singer Jeff Daniels will perform in concert at 54 below continuing tonight, January 3 and 4 at 8PM and 11PM. You know Daniels from his Tony Award-nominated performances in shows like God of Carnage, from his Academy Award-nominated performances in movies like The Squid and The Whale ... and for starring as anchorman Will McAvoy in Aaron Sorkin's HBO series, The Newsroom. You may recall his years on and off Broadway in plays like Lanford Wilson's 5th of July and Redwood Curtain.

Grammy Award-nominated musician Nelson Gonzalez has joined the creative team of the upcoming Second Stage Theatre production of THE HAPPIEST SONG PLAYS LAST, written by 2012 Pulitzer Prize winner Quiara Alegria Hudes and directed by Tony Award winner Ruben Santiago-Hudson. Mr. Gonzalez, who is widely considered the master of the Cuban Tres guitar, will oversee the production's musical elements and will lead a live band during performances.
