La MaMa E.T.C. in association with The Magis Theatre Company will present Shakuntala and the Ring of Recognition, Kalidasa's 5th century classic, for a limited engagement from February 11-28, 2010, at The Ellen Stewart Theatre (The Annex) at La MaMa, 74A East 4th Street.

In honor of Women's History Month, panelists K. Savage, Vikki Law and Kimberely Mackenzie will discuss art and accessibility, art as a form of empowerment that effects community change, and the contributions of women artists specific to New York City. This panel discussion and reception is a companion event to the pop-up solo exhibition of new work by K. Savage in the East 4th Street Cultural District as part of the ArtUp program. The panel will be moderated by Joyce Manolo of ArtForward. Produced by Fourth Arts Block's ArtUp program in collaboration with ArtForward. There is a $3 suggested donation to expand ArtUp program in the Lower East Side.

Producer Ken Davenport tells Variety today that he's secured the rights and is aiming to bring Godspell back to Broadway during the 2010-2011 season. The last attempt to bring back to the show, in fall of 2008 with different producers failed to secure needed funding and fell through.

Ellen Stewart, founder and artistic director of the East Village's La MaMa Experimental Theatre Club, has long been deemed the heart and soul of the theatre space. Over the decades since opening La MaMa in 1961, she has been the main presence in the club and chief supporter of its artisits. She has lived by the motto that everyone who does a play at La MaMa is now part of the family.

In her 13 years as artistic director of Berkeley Repertory Theatre, Sharon Ott led the company to new artistic heights, national prestige, and a well-deserved Tony Award. Now, after a 12-year absence, she returns with a gripping production of Fyodor Dostoevsky's classic Crime and Punishment. The scene of this Crime is Berkeley Rep's intimate Thrust Stage, where Ott earned her reputation as a dazzling director. The show begins previews on February 27, opens March 4, and closes March 29. Its executive producers are John and Helen Meyer and Richard H. Rubin and H. Marcia Smolens, with production sponsorship from the Bernard Osher Foundation. In the Garden of One World brings together theatre scenography, digital photography and installation art to create a conceptual space inspired by Ellen Stewart's famous dictum that theatre should 'speak beyond words.'

Producer Adam Epstein (Cry-Baby, Hairspray) announced today that the landmark rock musical Godspell is scheduled to begin performances on Broadway in the summer of 2008 at a Shubert Theatre to be announced.
