​WAM Theatre has unveiled its 2024 season centering new paths and brave futures, through four innovative theatrical stories and a special 15th Anniversary Benefit.

AEA members voted to authorize a strike against the Broadway League of the development agreement - while this doesn’t mean the union will call a strike, it does give them another bargaining chip in their ongoing negotiations with the League. Regionally, we have a lot of stories of announced retirements and new leaders stepping into roles.

Kwame Kwei-Armah has announced his final season at the Young Vic Theatre. His final production as Young Vic Artistic Director will be the world premiere of A Face in the Crowd, a new production based on the classic ‘50s Hollywood film, with music and lyrics by Elvis Costello and book by Sarah Ruhl. Casting for the title role in the new Disney musical HERCULES in Hamburg was announced at an event open to the press yesterday. Benét Monteiro will take on the role of Hercules, and his single version of Go The Distance will also be released on all streaming platforms on Friday. What did our critic think of LET THERE BE LOVE at Penguin Rep? Quite often dramas concerning race, immigration, family squabbles (and other issues that we can’t reveal here without spoiling) tend to be in-your-face, preachy and heavy-handed.  “Let There Be Love” is a play about all of the former, with none of the latter.   It is charming, moving, hilariously funny and full of tremendous heart.

Written a decade ago, the piece is perhaps more significant now than it was in 2013. Beneatha’s Place is unquestionably and ideologically hefty, academically relevant, and socio-politically topical. It very much rides on the coattails of Raisin, covering the same points with an added first-hand representation of the political climate of pre-independent Nigeria and an academic look at the current societal dynamics. It’s an explicit lecture on privilege and prejudice. 

Northern Stage's Summer Musical Theater Intensive (SMTI) participants are featured this summer in Shaina Taub and Kwame Kwei-Armah’s jazz-funk hit Twelfth Night, a 90-minute musical adaptation of the beloved Shakespeare romantic comedy.

Disney's HERCULES will open in Hamburg as a spectacular musical full of humor, adventure, and joie de vivre that transforms the Stage Theater Neue Flora into the fantastic mythical world of the Greek gods. The production will begin performances on March 24th, 2024 and will be directed by Casey Nicholaw, and advance tickets are now on sale.
