Columbia Stages presents THE THREEPENNY OPERA, a play with music after John Gay?s The Beggar?s Opera, in Three Acts, music by Kurt Weill, German translation by Elisabeth Hauptmann, adaptation and lyrics by Bertolt Brecht, English translation by Michael Feingold, and directed by Henning A. Hegland, running April 1st - 4th, 2009, at The Riverside Theatre, located in the historic Riverside Church at 91 Claremont Avenue between 120th and 122nd Streets.

GIRL CRAZY, FANNY and ANYONE CAN WHISTLE Set for Encores! 2009/10 Season

Girl Crazy, with music by George Gershwin, lyrics by Ira Gershwin and book by Guy Bolton and Jack McGowan, will open New York City Center's 2009-2010 Encores! season on November 19, 2009. The season will continue with Fanny, with music and lyrics by Harold Rome and book by S. N. Behrman and Joshua Logan, on February 4, 2010. Fanny will be the 50th Encores! production presented by City Center since 1994. The season will conclude with Anyone Can Whistle, Stephen Sondheim and Arthur Laurents' legendary 1964 musical, on April 8, 2010.

Help Gringold Group Pick A New Name For Project Shaw

Well, coming up with the name 'Project Shaw' wasn't particularly original back in 2006. It certainly wasn't the first NY theatre project and they just keep coming. In fact, one is hard-pressed to find anything that isn't a project around NY these days.

Tony Award-winners Philip Bosco, Jim Norton and Ruben Santiago-Hudson, as well as Cheyenne Jackson, Kate Baldwin, and Jeremy Bobb star in Finian's Rainbow, the final production of New York City Center's 2008-09 Encores! season, running from March 26 - 29. Finian's Rainbow has music by Burton Lane, lyrics by E.Y. Harburg and book by E. Y. Harburg and Fred Saidy and will be directed and choreographed by Warren Carlyle with music direction by Rob Berman. The musical will play five performances at City Center (West 55th Street between 6th and 7th Avenues).

Kurt Weill Project Comes To The Metropolitain Room 3/25-3/29

The Kurt Weill Project, an innovative new quartet created to explore the music of Kurt Weill will debut in a prime time engagement at The Metropolitan Room, 34 West 22nd Street, from March 25 to March 29. Consisting of four highly accomplished musicians -- Hilary Gardner (vocals), Frank Ponzio (piano), Pete Donovan (bass) and Vito Lesczak (drums) -- The Kurt Weill Project premieres 'A Song About Forever' featuring songs from the group's debut CD of the same name which was put out last year (Consolidated Artists Productions).

Rees and Clark 'SING HAPPY' for Collegiate Chorale's Spring Benefit 4/29

On Wednesday, April 29, at the historic Hudson Theatre in the Millennium Hotel, Tony Award-winner Roger Rees will host Sing Happy!, The Collegiate Chorale's spring benefit celebrating 'The Great White Way'. The evening features special musical guest and Tony Award-winning actress Victoria Clark, who recently starred in the The Chorale's highly praised concert revival of Kurt Weill & Ira Gershwin's Firebrand of Florence on March 12.

Tony Award Winning CRAZY FOR YOU Comes To Indiana 5/7-6/14

Their music became the soundtrack for the Twentieth Century and saw America through some of her darkest days of the Great Depression and the tumultuous years of World War II. George and Ira Gershwin, the song-writing brothers penned such standards as 'They Can't Take That Away from Me,' 'Embraceable You,' and 'I Got Rhythm.' Unfortunately, the books behind the musicals for which they were writing could not hold a candle to the music.
