On the heels of his smash hit television series, Mike & Molly , and successful productions of his plays New Country, Rantoul and Die, and Parasite Drag, critically acclaimed playwright, actor, producer and director Mark Roberts unleashes his latest razor-sharp comedy Living the Dream for two special staged readings Friday, January 19 at 3:00pm and 7:00pm at The 52nd Street Project's New Angels Theatre, 789 10th Avenue. Plans are underway for a Fall, 2018 off Broadway run.

New York Theatre Workshop (NYTW) presents HUNDRED DAYS, with a book by The Bengsons (Iphigenia in Aulis) and Sarah Gancher (The Place We Built), music and lyrics by The Bengsons, direction by Obie Award winner Anne Kauffman, and movement direction by Obie Award winner Sonya Tayeh (you'll still call me by name). The show opened last night, December 4, 2017, at New York Theatre Workshop (79 E. 4th Street New York, NY 10003) for a run through December 31, 2017. Senator Elizabeth Warren and the rest of the Opening NIght Audience at Shakespeare & Co's production of Cymbeline didn't have to fill the suggestion box labeled 'Tell Us Why You LIke Shakespeare'  in the lobby of the Tina Packer Playhouse with answers to that question.  They did it with their many standing ovations for the 9 actors and director Tina Packer at the conclusion of a magnificent and energetic performance of the complex plot driven play by Shakespeare.   There are a lot of exciting things going on at Shakespeare & Co. in Lenox MA. and artistic director Allyn Burrows in his toast at the jubilant after party stated 'first to the unknown and to the road ahead'!

This tale of love and passion, produced for the first time on the Company's Mainstage, runs in the Tina Packer Playhouse now through August 6, 2017. The production also marks a personal milestone for Packer, who, after opening her production of Cymbeline, will have directed all 37 plays in the Shakespeare canon. The legendary story of Jane Eyre, written by Charlotte Bronte in 1847, arrives as artful, contemporary adaption by Polly Teale in Milwaukee Repertory Theater's season ending production at the Quadracci Powerhouse. Director KJ Sanchez follows Teale's lead and delves deeper into the psychology between Jane and Mr. Rochester's uninhibited, possible mad wife Bertha. The two characters, through actors, Margaret Ivey (Jane) and Rin Allen (Bertha) shadow each other throughout the production. In this adaptation, Bertha appears to mirror Jane's repressed Victorian feelings that literally ignite their lives and  English homestead, Thornfield.

Refreshing and cleverly staged by K.J. Sanchez, Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park's production of Jane Eyre, adapted by Polly Teale runs through April 8th.

SISTER CARRIE, a new American opera commissioned by Florentine Opera from the creators of Elmer Gantry, comes to Milwaukee's Marcus Center for the Performing Arts for two performances: Today October 7 at 7:30 PM and Sunday October 9 at 2:30 PM.

Milwaukee, WI -- The Florentine continues to craft its seasons with a blend of imaginatively staged classic operas and important new American works. The nation's sixth oldest opera company will launch the 83rd Season with the world premiere of SISTER CARRIE, a new work by the two-time Grammy Award-winning creators of Elmer Gantry.

Shakespeare & Company presented The Two Gentlemen of Verona last night and Broadwayworld was at the opening.  Written by William Shakespeare, and directed by Co-Artistic Director Jonathan Croy, this early romantic comedy takes a gleeful look at the fickle nature of young love, playing in-the-round at the Tina Packer Playhouse throughSeptember 4, 2016.

Charles, the ship-charterer (Brian D. Coats), is a black man who believes himself superior to all the black people who surround him. He has internalized the view held by Jim Crow America of African Americans as the inferior "other," but in order to entertain that view he necessarily has mentally set himself apart. Anderson's remarks in the program suggest Charles is an exemplar of America's notion of exceptionalism.

What makes The Second Girl a comedy more than anything else is Cathryn Wake's electrifying performance as Cathleen, a confection of flashing eyes, red hair, a tell-the-truth-and-shame-the-devil attitude, and naked ambition. Her vivacity is inescapable.

Shakespeare & Company will commemorate the 400th anniversary of the Bard during this 39th performance season with a newly configured theatre, and will debut its first production in-the-round with The Merchant of Venice, directed by Founder Tina Packer and featuring Jonathan Epstein as Shylock. This controversial and poignant play opens the Tina Packer Playhouse on July 1, and runs through August 21.
