Premieres of Two Operas and Broadcast of Peter Rosen Documentary, 10/19-21

The New York premieres and world premiere production of Gordon Getty's "Scare Pair," a double-bill by the San Francisco-based composer, pairs his two one act-operas -- Usher House and The Canterville Ghost -- together for the first time on October 19 and 21 (7:30pm) at The Sylvia and Danny Kaye Playhouse at Hunter College (located at East 68th Street, between Lexington and Park Avenues).  Both works, with the libretto and music by Mr. Getty, will be sung in English and have a running time of 60 minutes each.

HGOco Commissions New 'Song of Houston' Operas

HGOco, Houston Grand Opera's community collaboration and education arm, has launched the next phase of itsSong of Houston initiative with commissions from two rising composer/librettist teams. Home of My Ancestors, by composer Nkeiru Okoye and librettist Anita Gonzalez, will premiere in March 2019. The not-yet-titled second opera, by composer Nell Shaw Cohen and librettist Megan Cohen, will premiere in March of 2021. A third commission will be announced at a later time. The award-winning Song of Houston is an initiative within HGOco that has been creating new works based on stories that define the unique character of Houston since 2007.

CCO Opens 35th Season with Premieres of Two Getty Operas

Houston Grand Opera Closes Strong 2016-17 Season

Houston Grand Opera announced at its annual meeting today that its 2016-17 season closed on a strong financial footing despite recent pressures on the Houston economy.

Trans Day of Visibility Comes to Harvey Milk Park 3/31

The City of Long Beach, in collaboration with Work Evolution, will be hosting Trans Day of Visibility (TDOV) at Harvey Milk Park and Equality Plaza (Harvey Milk Park) on Friday, March 31, 2017 from 6:00 to 7:30 pm. The public is invited to come and enjoy opera, theater, and spoken word that celebrates and raises awareness on the current struggle and discrimination faced by transgender people.

Opera AMERICA Announces THE OPERA FUND: AUDIENCE DEVELOPMENT GRANTS Recipients

OPERA America, the national service organization for opera and the nation's leading champion for American opera, is pleased to announce it has awarded grants to 10 opera companies through The Opera Fund: Audience Development grant program, which promotes deep learning experiences about new or infrequently produced American operas and music-theater works. Each grant supports audience development activities associated with a specific work being produced by a Professional Company Member of OPERA America.
