On Monday, October 21, PEN American Center, the largest branch of the world's leading literary and human rights organization, celebrated its 2013 Literary awards at the Proshansky Auditorium of CUNY Graduate Center in New York City.

Tony Award-winning playwright Larry Kramer is the recipient of the PEN/Laura Pels International Foundation for Theater Award for an American Playwright in Mid-Career as well as a Master American Dramatist award

30 books have been named as finalists in six categories by the National Book Critics Circle -autobiography, biography, criticism, fiction, nonfiction, and poetry.

Performance Network Theatre presents a dangerously sexy play by Pulitzer Prize-winning dramatist Lanford Wilson. Burn This runs now through September 2nd, with weekly performances on Thursdays at 7:30pm, Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm, 2pm Sunday matinees, and 3pm Saturday matinees on August 18 and September 1. In response to demand for tickets, Performance Network Theatre is extending the critically acclaimed drama, "Red," for one week only. Written by John Logan, "Red" will now run through Sunday, June 3, at which time it must close to make way for the summer comedy, "In the Next Room or the vibrator play." "Red" is directed by Carla Milarch and stars Mark Rademacher and Kevin Young.

As part of its mission "to reestablish and expand Detroit's theatre district," Magenta Giraffe Theatre Company has chosen plays by Michigan natives and current Michigan residents to stage as part of a festival to take place March 31 and April 1, 2012, at the Abreact Performance Space (1301 W. Lafayette, #1301, Detroit, MI 48226). Attendees will see a reading of each play and are encouraged to participate in a workshop-style discussion afterward. Admission is by donation only.

As part of Performance Network's continued dedication to support and provide a voice for new and emerging playwrights, the Fireside Festival of New Works will be held February 12 - 15, 2012. This twice-yearly festival of staged readings, which is to be held at Performance Network Theatre, will feature brand new works by four playwrights.
