Tonya Pinkins to Exit 'MOTHER COURAGE' Off-Broadway; Classic Stage Hunts for New Lead

'MOTHER COURAGE' will soon be missing its off-Broadway matriarch. Classic Stage Company's production of Bertolt Brecht's Mother Courage and Her Children began performances on December 9, starring Tony Award winner Tonya Pinkins. But now BroadwayWorld has confirmed that Pinkins will be leaving the show on January 5, before its originally slated opening night on January 7. That date will now be postponed as the production's creative team hunts for a replacement.

Two River Theater, under the leadership of Artistic Director John Dias and Managing Director Michael Hurst, announces the full cast and creative team for its production of August Wilson's Seven Guitars, directed by Brandon J. Dirden, an award-winning actor who is making his directorial debut with this production. Seven Guitars is the third play in Wilson's American Century Cycle produced by Two River, following the theater's acclaimed mountings of Jitney and Two Trains Running. Performances will begin in Two River's Rechnitz Theater, 21 Bridge Avenue, on Saturday, September 12 and continue through Sunday, October 4. Based on the celebrated novel of the same name by Jonathan Lethem, THE FORTRESS OF SOLITUDE provided Friedman with rich dramatic fodder with which to craft a spectacular musical score overflowing with melody and displaying a wide swath of influences befitting of the coming of age story and 1970s milieu, ranging from traditional musical theatre to rock, pop, R&B, rap, world music and beyond, which he describes in detail via his personally chosen selections from the show in today's show-focused discussion.
