On Monday, November 22, Bernard Gersten, Executive Producer of Lincoln Center Theater (LCT) received the John Houseman Award for his work at Lincoln Center and as Joseph Papp's Associate Producer of The New York Shakespeare Festival (NYSF) at The Acting Company's Masquerade Gala. Tom Viola, Executive Director of Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS (BC/EFA), was also honored with the Joan Warburg Humanitarian Award for his leadership and advocacy in the fight against AIDS. Kelsey Grammer and Patti LuPone entertained as Angela Lansbury, Marian Seldes, Elizabeth Wilson, Campbell Scott, Dana Ivey, Shubert's Philip Smith and Robert Wankel, Jujamcyn's Paul Libin, Equity's Nick Wyman, The Actors Fund's Joe Benecasa and The Broadway League's Charlotte St. Martin and more joined the salute. Last night, November 8, The New 42nd Street Gala honored Tony Award winning actor Bill Irwin. The annual event, which this year celebrates The New Victory Theater Education Program, featured guests Nathan Lane, Jonathan Demme, new vaudeville troupe The Handsome Little Devils and Full Circle Productions (under the direction of Gabriel 'Kwikstep' Dionisio and Ana 'Rokafella' Garcia), Kevin Kline, Phoebe Cates Kline and more. After accepting his award, Irwin took the stage with 12 4th graders from PS/IS 111 to present a special musical vaudeville finale, the product of student workshops led by Irwin with children from The New Victory Education Residency program. Artistic Director Sean Murray is pleased to announce a concert staged reading of the hilarious and rarely performed musical, ON THE TWENTIETH CENTURY, with book and lyrics by Betty Comdon and Adolph Green and music by Cy Coleman. The delightfully comedic romp will be performed free to attendees of Cygnet Theatre's Mini-Benefit, with proceeds supporting the Storytelling on the Green Program. The Mini-Benefit and Concert Reading will be presented TWO NIGHTS ONLY on Mondays, November 1st and 8th at Cygnet Theatre in Old Town. The Mini-Benefit begins at 6:30pm and the Concert Reading begins at 7:30pm.
