The Apollo Theater Salon Series in partnership with Dr. Barbara Ann Teer's National Black Theatre (NBT) will present WiLDFLOWER, the staged concert reading of the full-length musical with book, music and lyrics by Jason Michael Webb and Lelund Durond Thompson. The performance, directed by Logan Vaughn and starring Broadway stars Tshidi Manye (The Lion King) and Quentin Earl Darrington (Once on this Island), will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, April 26, and Saturday, April 27, on the Apollo Theater Soundstage.
On Sunday, June 10, the Foundation for New American Musicals will showcase short (10-minute) musicals written by high school and college-age finalists competing for cash-award scholarships in SHOWSEARCH 2018.
On Friday, February 3 at 7:30pm, ASCAP Artistic Director and Tony, Oscar and Grammy Award-winning composer and lyricist Stephen Schwartz (Wicked, Godspell, Pippin, Pocahontas, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, The Prince of Egypt) was joined by Broadway guest stars for An Evening with Stephen Schwartz: Music & Broadway Memories.
Following the marked success of its first American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) event in 2013, the Lied Center for Performing Arts announces the return of the ASCAP/Grow A Show New Musical Theatre Workshop Sept. 9-11, 2015. The workshop seeks new musical theatre works with the potential to be developed and produced into full-scale productions. The Lied Center is currently accepting submissions from musical theatre playwrights and composers from across the country. Submissions must be received by Friday, May 1, 2015 to be considered.
