On Monday, August 18, the Broadway at Birdland concert series was proud to present singer-songwriter Rhonda Ross, along with her slamming jazz band (Terry Burrus on piano, Dominick Maybank on bass, Kevin Harrington on drums, Terelle Tipton, Keesha Gumbs, & Sheniqua Trotman on background vocals, Duane Eubanks on trumpet, and Darrly Yokely on sax).
On Monday, August 11, Billy Stritch and Jim Caruso took to the Birdland stage for the first time. OK, not exactly. They've been hosting Cast Party in the historic music room every week for eleven years - but this was the swinging duo's first time to be booked in concert! Thanks to their faithful Cast Party following, and the fact that Jim has been booking the Broadway at Birdland concert series for a decade, the room was packed with friends, fans and fellow performers. Caruso and Stritch were joined by Steve Doyle on bass, and jazz vocalist superstar Jane Monheit made a surprise musical cameo. Scroll down for photos!
Oyen Sings Oyen: An Intimate Evening With Alexander Sage Oyen is set for Don't Tell Mama, 343 West 46th Street between 8th and 9th Avenues on Monday, August 25th and Thursday, August 28th at 7:30pm. Directed by Max Friedman. On August 25th only, Ariana DeBose (Pippin, Motown) and Caissie Levy (Les Miserables, Ghost) will join Oyen on stage. Special guests for the August 28th performance to be announced.

At Birdland this past week, Jim Caruso's Cast Party was a jam-packed, sold-out crazy-quilt of talent. The Broadway at Birdland concert series celebrated a musical trifecta on Monday night, with sublime jazz vocalist Jane Monheit, extraordinary arrangements by Mary Ann McSweeney, and a wealth of Irving Berlin material. The stellar backup band for the evening evening included McSweeney on bass, Jim Ridl on piano, and Alvester Garnett on drums. Several months ago, the Monheit-McSweeney duo teamed up with a swinging take on Cole Porter's iconic score for Anything Goes, to great acclaim.
The award-winning Broadway at Birdland concert series and Jim Caruso's Cast Party have been constants on the New York scene for the past eleven years. Every week, performers from the Great White Way and beyond are showcased in the concert series, followed by the always-extreme open mic.

All performances are free to the public. The festival will be a celebration of the cabaret genre honoring the Great American Songbook with performances by renowned local and New York City-based artists.
