Casting has been completed for New York City Center's upcoming Encores! production of Stephen Sondheim's Merrily We Roll Along, the first New York City Center Encores! production of the season. Merrily We Roll Along, with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by George Furth, will be directed by James Lapine with music direction by Rob Berman and musical staging by Dan Knechtges. Merrily has been extended for a two-week run and will play for 15 performances, February 8-19, 2012, at New York City Center, 55th Street between 6th and 7th Avenues.

The National Alliance for Musical Theatre (NAMT) has announced preliminary casting and final music directors for its 22nd Annual Festival of New Musicals taking place on Thursday, October 21 and Friday, October 22, 2010 at New World Stages in New York City.

I'll be blunt.  I'm not going to go into much detail about the problems with composer/bookwriter Rob Broadhurst and lyricist/bookwriter Brent Black's teenage Faustian musical, I'll Be Damned, since it's a fledgling effort and the Jaradoa Theater Company offers seats for a comparatively low price.  The production will certainly be perking up the interest of Broadway fans with its casting of the broad and belty Mary Testa and popular up-and-comer Kenita R. Miller playing featured roles, but the piece is not ready to be reviewed.

Luis Salgado choreographs Jaradoa Theater's new musical I'll Be Damned while continuing his run in the Tony Award winning Best Musical In the Heights. I'll Be Damned will play the Dimson Theatre at The Vineyard for a limited engagement from Thursday, July 1 - Sunday, July 18. Based on Ms. Walker's novel and the masterful Steven Spielberg film, 'The Color Purple' has been turned into a glorious musical that will likely have anyone cheering near the beginning and crying and cheering at the end. Certainly not a musical designed for children, the heart of the story is Celie's separation from her sister Nettie and the brutality Celie suffers from her forced husband known as Mister

The Independent Reviewers of New England (IRNE), a panel of critics from media outlets around the state of Massachusetts, have announced the nominees for the IRNE Awards honoring the best of the 2009 Theatre Season.
