New York Shakespeare Exchange, producer of the internationally-acclaimed The Sonnet Project and ShakesBEER: NYC's Original Shakespearean Pub Crawl, is pleased to announce their upcoming 2 Plays. 1 Conversation Reading Series. The annual series, featuring lightly staged readings of two plays, explores the intersection of classical and contemporary theater and engages artists and audiences in an open dialogue about the place of Shakespeare in today's society.

Following the highly successful and critically acclaimed run of Chiara Atik's Women at The Peoples Improv Theater (NY Times Critic's Pick), The PIT has announced its newest theatrical comedy: Hold On To Your Butts, a LIVE shot-for-shot remake of Jurassic Park, performed by just two actors and a foley artist September 15-23.

PlayMakers Repertory Company is unafraid to tackle big issues, issues that are polarizing, issues which make audiences uncomfortable. The magic of PlayMakers is their ability to tackle those issues while showing their respect for the intelligence of the audience and trusting audiences to understand the value of taking risks in the theater. This has never been so true as with Clybourne Park.

PlayMakers Repertory Company, the professional theater in residence at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, offers audiences two insightful looks at race and the meaning of home in productions of 'A Raisin in the Sun' and 'Clybourne Park,' to be performed in rotating repertory now through March 3. Chautauqua Theater Company's Artistic Director Vivienne Benesch has announced the final production of CTC's 29th season: Shakespeare's glorious As You Like It. Director Jackson Gay (3C, Rattlestick; A Little Journey, 2012 Drama Desk Nomination, The Mint) makes her CTC debut with a 1930's swing era slant on Shakespeare's funniest and most frolicsome play. Composer Justin Ellington (Other Desert Cities, Lincoln Center; 2010 Grammy Award Winner) infuses the festivities with a bubbling score performed live by the sixteen member cast.

This sounds like an exaggeration, but I promise that it's not: Noises Off at PlayMakers Repertory Company in Chapel Hill is, honest-to-goodness, the funniest thing I have seen in quite some time. It reminded me that live theater is magical - I cannot think of a single movie which is as funny as this live-action comedy. Michael Frayn's writing is brilliant - how any human is able to write something so tight and fast-paced is beyond me. It's not a popular piece for nothing. Under the skillful direction of Michael Michetti, the cast is able to capture the blissful comedy of the piece, beat by beat.
