Urban Stages Celebartes the Holiday Season with Holiday Cabaret Nights 12/15

Urban Stages (Frances Hill, Artistic Director) is proud to ring in the holiday season with its 2nd Annual Holiday Cabaret Nights, featuring some of the most outstanding talent in the Cabaret and Theatre worlds at Urban Stages (259 West 30th Street) every evening from the 6th through 15th of December. Holiday Cabaret Nights will help support the Urban Stages Outreach Program which brings theatre to children and families through over 200 programs to over 92 libraries in over 44 Council Districts throughout the five boroughs.

TheatreWorks Launches 9th Annual New Works Festival, 8/8-22

TheatreWorks, the nationally-acclaimed theatre of Silicon Valley, continues its commitment to the creation and development of new works with the 2010 New Works Festival, sponsored by Microsoft. The ninth annual Festival, August 8-22 at TheatreWorks at Lucie Stern Theatre, features fifteen days of new works unveiled to the public, including new musicals, new plays, a cabaret concert, and a panel discussion. This year's festival will feature a developmental production of the funny and inspirational musical FLY BY NIGHT from Kim Rosenstock, Will Connolly, and Michael Mitnick. Additionally announced for this summer's lineup are staged readings of two musicals: GREAT WALL, a vibrant pop musical from Kevin Merritt and Kevin So (with Tony Award-winner David Henry Hwang as a story consultant), and the moving gospel and jazz musical RED CLAY from Jeff Hughes and Scott Ethier. The festival will also feature readings of two plays: HOW TO WRITE A NEW BOOK FOR THE BIBLE, the latest piece from New Works Festival veteran Bill Cain (Equivocation) and VARIATIONS ON A THEME, a luminous drama by Anna Ziegler. Audience members are invited to a Meet the Artists Panel at 7:30pm on August 15. The panel discussion will give an inside look at what it's like to write for the stage. Festival composers, performers, and special guests will share a wealth of new songs and treasured favorites at Festival: Unplugged, Songs in the Key of New, a cabaret concert on Friday, August 20. Brava Theater Announces 2010-2011 Season

FIDDLER Leads Barrymore Award Nominations; Ceremony Set for 10/4

The 2010 Barrymore nominees have been announced! Created in 1994, The Barrymore Awards for Excellence in Theatre are the Greater Philadelphia region's only comprehensive theatre awards program, recognizing artists for excellence and innovation while serving to increase awareness of the richness of the local theatre community. The Barrymore Awards are a nationally recognized symbol of excellence for theatre in this region, raising the bar for the work produced by local theatres and individual artists, and generating significant coverage in all the local newspapers and in national trade publications.Each year, over 120 shows produced by the region's professional theatres are reviewed by the Barrymore Voters. At the annual awards presentation each Fall, the Barrymore Awards are presented to honor the community's collective achievement. African-American Shakespeare Company 2010-11 Season

San Francisco's African-American Shakespeare Company proudly announces the lineup for its 16th season. The season marks African-American Shakespeare Company's first season under the new artistic leadership of acclaimed actor and director L. Peter Callender. The season opens in September with IPH..., Colin Teevan's stunning adaptation of Euripides' classic Greek tragedy; Dylan Russell directs this co-production with Brava Theater. The company continues its season in December with an enchanting holiday production of CINDERELLA; this new take on the timeless fairytale has become a seasonal favorite for families and children of all ages. Closing the season in April is Shakespeare's TWELFTH NIGHT, directed by L. Peter Callender and featuring an original score by renowned local jazz composer Marcus Shelby. Productions will be staged at Brava Theater and at the African American Art & Culture Complex, both located in San Francisco. THE OLDEST PROFESSION, IPH Highlight Brava Theatre 2010-11 Season

Brava enters its 3rd season under the direction of Artistic Director, Raelle Myrick-Hodges, with exciting experiments including new work development, premieres and new collaborations. Brava Theater, located in the heart of San Francisco's Mission district, is gearing up for its 2010-2011 season with a series of seldom produced works, premieres and innovative outlandish projects. The upcoming season includes a tribute to Stonewall's 40th Anniversary with Come As You Are; the Regional Premiere of Colin Teevan's Iph, an adaptation of Euripides' Iphigenia at Aulis; a radio play with a killer ending directed by Meiyin Wang; a presentation of works by curated international choreographer Joe Goode; the regional premiere of Paula Vogel's The Oldest Profession and a series of New Work Development to combat the female playwright syndrome noted by writer Marsha Norman in the feature American Theater article Not There Yet. Urban Stages Extends LANGSTON IN HARLEM Thru 5/9

Urban Stages (Frances Hill, Artistic Director, Lauren Schmiedel, Managing Director) is happy to announce a one-week extension of their critically acclaimed musical, Langston in Harlem. Langston in Harlem has a book by Langston Hughes, Walter Marks and Kent Gash, with music by Walter Marks, lyrics by Langston Hughes and directed by Kent Gash, with Barry Levitt as music producer, choreography by Byron Easley, and musical direction by John DiPinto.

TheatreWorks Celebrates Recognition: BATCC Awards, Tony and Drama Desk Award Nominations

TheatreWorks, the nationally acclaimed theatre of Silicon Valley, had great cause to celebrate this week, from eight 2010 Tony® Award nominations and seven 2010 Drama Desk Award nominations for the TheatreWorks-born Broadway hit MEMPHIS to capturing top honors in the Bay Area Theatre Critic's Circle Awards. The week began with TheatreWorks accepting seven Bay Area Theatre Critic's Circle Awards, putting them on top for the most awards garnered in the musicals category.
