Stage and screen star Jeremy Irons will star in Showtime's new historical drama The Borgias. The new series, replacing Showtime's The Tudors, will premiere in early 2011. Creator Neil Jordan executive produces alongside Michael Hirst who produced The Tudors. The Tudors will end its four year run this year. Jordan will reportedly helm the first two episodes.

MATILDA, a new musical based on author Roald Dahl's 1988 children's book of the same name will be staged by the Royal Shakespeare Company at the Courtyard Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon. Hampstead Theatre's third new writing festival, Daring Pairings 3, will be the climax of its 50th Anniversary celebrations, announced on Tuesday 30 June.
