The Suzi Bass Awards, Inc. revealed nominations for the 2013-2014 Atlanta professional theatrical season this evening to theatre patrons and industry artists. The Suzi Nomination Party, which rotates venues, was hosted this year by Actor's Express in the King Plow Arts Center of Atlanta. Guest announcers included performers Christy Baggett, Laura Cole, Danielle Deadwyler, and Tess Malis Kincaid.
The Weird Sisters Theatre Project continue their 2014 summer season with Late: A Cowboy Song by Sarah Ruhl at Actor's Express theatre, July 21-August 5. The play is an early work of the award-winning playwright about perpetually late Mary, a woman who is desperately searching to find herself.
The Brand Signature Series concludes Aurora Theatre's 18th season with the hysterical Don't Dress for Dinner by Marc Camoletti. The show runs May 1-25, 2014. In this this hilarious romp through the French countryside, Bernard concocts a romantic rendezvous with his mistress with an alibi courtesy of his friend, Robert. But Bernard's wife decides on a surprise tryst of her own. With a gourmet cook and a randy mistress-both named Suzy-a wacky collision course of mistaken identity and outrageous infidelity ensues. Aurora Theatre is giving patrons what they have been asking for-more holiday programing. In addition to the perennial favorite one-man A Christmas Carol, featuring Anthony P. Rodriguez, Aurora adds a hilariously irreverent one-woman show, The 12 Dates of Christmas. These shows will run for a limited 3-week engagement December 5-22 in repertory. The oddly chipper Norwegian Prince Fortinbras swoops in to Denmark to find himself in charge of a nation, but with the PR nightmare of having to explain all the deaths at Elsinore. Finding Horatio's account of the murders implausible, Fortinbras decides to make up the truth, much to the ire of the recently dispatched ghosts roaming the corridors, who want the true tale told.

Atlanta's 2011 Suzi Awards for professional theatre celebrated 22 companies, hundreds of professional artists, theatre volunteers, and the Center for Puppetry Arts at a gala event Monday evening at the Conant Center on Oglethorpe University's campus. With over four hundred in attendance, the evening began as each of the casts nominated for Ensemble-Musical performed a medley of numbers from their shows. After the performances, all the casts came back on stage to await the announcement of their category's winner, reflecting Melissa McCarthy and friends at the Emmy Awards. The cast of See What I Wanna See at Actor's Express (Kylie Brown, Ingrid Cole, Dustin Lewis, Stuart Schleuse and Craig Waldrip) took home the Suzi and the congratulations of the thirty nominees on stage with them.
