Keith Hamilton Cobb's AMERICAN MOOR Returns To Boston

ArtsEmerson is honored to host the return of the award-winning American Moor written and performed by Keith Hamilton Cobb, an urgent solo work examining the experience and perspective of black men in America through the metaphor of William Shakespeare's character, Othello. The 2018 IRNE and Elliot Norton award-winning play received wide-spread acclaim from Boston audiences and critics - American Moor plays ArtsEmerson for two weeks of performances, April 10-21, at the Emerson Paramount Center Robert J. Orchard Stage.

A Noise Within Announces New Cultural Initiative - NOISE NOW!

A Noise Within (ANW), California's acclaimed classical repertory theatre, is proud to announce the launch of its new cultural initiative, Noise Now, with its inaugural event on Monday, Feb. 25 at 7 p.m. Noise Now will present Lineage Performing Arts Center's Ceiling In The Floor on its main stage along with the opening of the art exhibit, "Cosmotarrayas," by Los Angeles artist Carolina Caycedo in ANW's lobby. Noise Now will partner with local arts organizations, artists, and the community to attract new audiences and better represent the diverse population living in Greater Los Angeles. A Noise Within has hired Jonathan Muñoz-Proulx as the nonprofit arts organization's first Director of Cultural Programming to lead the initiative.

Shakespeare's Globe Announces Programme For 'Shakespeare And Race' Festival

Shakespeare's Globe is delighted to announce the programme for 'Shakespeare and Race', a new festival of events opening 11 August. This is the first time in the Globe's twenty-year history that the topic will be explored in depth over a week. Curated to draw attention to and provide a platform for scholars, practitioners and educators of colour in the teaching, study and performance of Shakespeare, this festival will highlight the importance of race to the consideration of Shakespeare not only in his time, but more urgently, in our own. The festival includes a play American Moor by Keith Hamilton Cobb, a workshop entitled Staging Race and Diversity in the Shakespearean Theatre, The Sam Wanamaker Fellowship Lecture is to be given by Professor Kim F. Hall, a pre-show talk for Emilia with Morgan-Lloyd Malcolm, a panel discussion of actors who have played Othello, and an international symposium featuring Kimberle Crenshaw, Professor of Law at Columbia Law School and UCLA, who coined the term 'intersectionality'. The festival starts and finishes with two theatre productions, Voices in the Dark and Hip-hop Shakespeare Unplugged.

Charles Mee to Be Honored By Cherry Lane Theatre And New York City Council Speaker Corey Johnson, 6/11

Legendary playwright, Charles Mee, is turning 80 years and will be celebrated by Cherry Lane Theatre at a benefit performance of FIRST LOVE followed by a blowout bash at Casa La Femme (140 Charles Street). Additionally New York City Council Speaker Corey Johnson will recognize Charles Mee with an official New York City Proclamation for his extraordinary and enduring contributions to the American theatre, on Monday, June 11, 2018 at The Cherry Lane Theatre beginning at 7pm.

Cherry Lane Theatre Presents FIRST LOVE By Charles Mee

Cherry Lane Theatre (Seri Lawrence, Janio Marrero, Co-Artistic Directors) is proud to announce that Academy Award nominee Michael O'Keefe and Angelina Fiordellisi will star in its upcoming Founder's Project presentation of Charles Mee's FIRST LOVE, directed by Kim Weild. Performances will begin on June 7, the production will open on June 14 and run through July 8 at Cherry Lane Theatre (38 Commerce Street). BWW Review: The 36th Annual Elliot Norton Awards

The Boston Theater Critics Association (BTCA) celebrated more than two dozen outstanding actors, directors, designers, and ensembles at The 36th Annual Elliot Norton Awards ceremony at the Huntington Avenue Theatre last night. The coveted Elliot Norton Prize for Sustained Excellence was presented to Leigh Barrett, Robert J. Eagle received a Special Citation in honor of his 50 years at Reagle Music Theatre, and the Guest of Honor Award went to internet sensation Randy Rainbow.

ArtsEmerson Announces The 2018-2019 Season

ArtsEmerson, Boston's leading presenter of contemporary world theatre, proudly announces the 2018/2019 Season, it's ninth, featuring eleven productions from seven countries. The season showcases three U.S. Premieres, including JB Priestley's Classic Thriller An Inspector Calls, Dead Center's Hamnet, and Global Arts Corps' See You Yesterday. The season also marks the return of multi-media storytellers Manual Cinema, and presents Shakespeare stories from Ireland, Russia, and New York; as well as a diversity of contemporary narratives on incarceration, racism, DACA, and what comes after the end of the world.

The Road To Berlin Runs Through Central Square

O.W.I. (Bureau of Theatre), recently nominated for Best Visiting Production for Keith Hamilton Cobb's American Moor by the Independent Reviewers of New England, presents the World premiere of BERLIN; OR, THE PART OF YOU THAT WANTS IT: A MUSICAL COMEDY LOVE STORY (WRITTEN BY ACCIDENT), written by Shaoul Rick Chason and directed by Pete Riesenberg. Performances take place April 19 - May 12, 2018 in the Studio at Central Square Theatre (450 Massachusetts Ave, Cambridge, MA). JUDAS By Robert Patrick Opens 4/29 at Phoenix Theatre Ensemble

Phoenix Theatre Ensemble announces the casting, directors, design team for Robert Patrick's Judas, which will start previews on April 27, with official opening Sun April 29,  and will run through May 13 at The Wild Project at 195 East 3rd Street in NYC.
