WNET's All Arts to Broadcast Tarell Alvin McCraney Interview of Peter Brook

ALL ARTS will premiere House Seats: In Conversation with Peter Brook, an interview of the legendary artist by the Tony Award-nominated playwright (Choir Boy) and Academy Award-winning screenwriter Tarell Alvin McCraney (Moonlight), in primetime on Sunday, February 23, at 8pm. ALL ARTS recorded the conversation at Polonsky Shakespeare Center following a performance of Peter Brook and Marie-Hélène Estienne's Why?, whose American Premiere Theatre for a New Audience (TFANA) presented as part of Peter Brook/NY, a citywide recognition of Brook and Estienne's work in theatre, opera, film, television, literature, and the development of the next generation of theatre artists.

BAM Expands Accessible Programs with the BAM Karen

In anticipation of the BAM Karen-the organization's new venue within 300 Ashland Place-BAM will redefine and elevate programming roles to reflect a broader vision for the organization. BAM Karen will include three new cinemas, a permanent home for the BAM Hamm Archives-including the Shelby White & Leon Levy Reading Room-and the Samuel H. Scripps Education Center. The new spaces are named in honor of longtime BAM president, Karen Brooks Hopkins, and are slated to open in 2021.

The NYC Department of Cultural Affairs Celebrates Start of Construction of New Cultural Center

The NYC Department of Cultural Affairs (DCLA) and NYC Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) today celebrated the start of construction on a new cultural center at the 32-story mixed-use tower, located at 300 Ashland Place in Fort Greene, Brooklyn. The L10 Arts and Cultural Center will be home to several noteworthy cultural institutions including the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM), Brooklyn Public Library, the Museum of Contemporary African Diasporan Arts (MoCADA) and 651 ARTS.

Peter Brook/NY today announces that Tarell Alvin McCraney will interview Peter Brook following the Thursday, September 26, performance of Why?, written and directed by Peter Brook and Marie-Hélène Estienne; featuring Hayley Carmichael, Kathryn Hunter, and Marcello Magni; and presented by Theatre for a New Audience. Beau Bridges Joins Theatre Aspen's Solo Flights In COACH: AN EVENING WITH JOHN WOODEN

Theatre Aspen announced today that three-time Emmy, two-time Golden Globe and Grammy Award winner, as well as a two-time Screen Actors Guild Award nominee, Beau Bridges, has been added to the organization's inaugural one-person show festival, Solo Flights, in Coach: An Evening with John Wooden, a new one-character play about legendary basketball coach, John Wooden, written by John Wilder. Coach: An Evening with John Wooden will open the festival on Wednesday, September 18 at 7:00pm and play an encore performance on Saturday, September 21 at 4:00pm.

Kostis Velonis's LIFE WITHOUT TRAGEDY Opens On Governors Island

Onassis USA is pleased to announce thatcelebrated artist Kostis Velonis's large-scale sculptural work Life Without Tragedy has now been installed on Governors Island, where it will remain on view, free of charge, today through October 31, 2019. Life Without Tragedy, developed with architect Christian Kotzamanisand initially created for the acclaimed Onassis Festival 2019: Democracy Is Coming (during which it could be seen on Astor Place, April 10-30, free of charge), explores the intersection of democracy and theater-perhaps Greece's two greatest contributions. The work consists of three wood sculptures that mimic an ancient Greek amphitheater, a place that was a social institution and a site for political discourse as well as a venue for art. 

Onassis Festival 2019 Participants And Programming Added

The Public Theater and Onassis USA today announced additional FREE programming and participants for the ONASSIS FESTIVAL 2019: DEMOCRACY IS COMING, running April 10-28 at The Public Theater and also La MaMa. Actors Phylicia Rashad and Andre Holland, performer/singer-songwriter Diana Oh, architect Elizabeth Diller, author Siri Hustvedt, and Kostis Velonis' art installation Life Without Tragedy join the Festival lineup.

Vallejo Gantner Appointed Artistic And Executive Director Of Onassis USA

The Onassis Foundation USA has appointed Vallejo Gantner as its new Artistic and Executive Director. Gantner led the internationally influential New York City cultural institution Performance Space 122 (now Performance Space New York) from 2005 to 2017 and was responsible for all programming and strategic direction, including the creation of the annual, interdisciplinary COIL Festival; the production of worldwide tours for multiple shows under the PS122 Global moniker; and the conception, fundraising, and management for the recent $35 million renovation of the organization's longtime East Village home.
