SMU's National Center for Arts Research (NCAR) today released its third annual Arts Vibrancy Index, which ranks more than 900 communities across the country, examining the level of supply, demand, and government support for the arts in each city. This year, 20% of the communities on the most-vibrant list appear for the first time - a total of eight new communities, including one new state, Alaska.

Joe Guttridge Named New York City Center's Director of Communications

BAM to Name New Space After Departing President Karen Brooks Hopkins

Tonight, April 28, the Brooklyn Academy of Music hosted a gala celebration honoring BAM President Karen Brooks Hopkins as she prepares to retire in June after more than 36 years of extraordinary service. And, according to The New York Times, BAM announced this evening that it will be naming its new space, located in an apartment building 'on the South Site of the Brooklyn Cultural District bordered by Lafayette Avenue, Flatbush Avenue and Ashland Place' after her.

Katy Clark Named New President of Brooklyn Academy of Music

Brooklyn Academy of Music Chairman Alan H. Fishman today announced the appointment of Katy Clark as incoming BAM president. She succeeds President Karen Brooks Hopkins, who will step down at the end of June. Katy Clark comes to BAM from New York's Orchestra of St. Luke's, where she has served as president and executive director since 2010.

Encompass New Opera, Treehouse Shakers and More Ste for BAM's 2014-15 PDP

The Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) today announced the participants of the third cycle of the BAM Professional Development Program (BAM PDP), led by BAM and the DeVos Institute of Arts Management at the University of Maryland. The companies for this session represent mixed disciplines ranging from dance to theater to opera. Chosen by a BAM-convened panel, the organizations taking part in this session are Encompass New Opera Theatre, Satellite Collective, Summation Dance, and Treehouse Shakers. As with the previous sessions, the DeVos Institute extended invitations to a group of organizations to apply for the training portion of the BAM PDP-expanding the program's reach beyond Brooklyn-based companies. These additional organizations taking part in the program areBalletNext, Beth Morrison Projects, S? Percussion, and Zvi Dance.
