Theatre Seven Presents World Premiere of UNWILLING AND HOSTILE INSTRUMENTS, Now thru 10/27

Theatre Seven of Chicago brings together nine talented Chicago's playwrights to commemorate the 100th anniversary of suffrage in Illinois with the world premiere of UNWILLING AND HOSTILE INSTRUMENTS: 100 Years of Extraordinary Chicago Women. Woven together into one full-length work are the incredible stories of Jane Addams, Myra Bradwell, Ann Landers, Mavis Staples, Cora Strayer, Maurine Watkins and Ida B. Wells. UNWILLING AND HOSTILE INSTRUMENTS plays tonight, October 1 - October 27, 2013 at American Theater Company, 1909 W. Byron St. in Chicago.

Berkeley Rep Extends VANYA AND SONIA AND MASHA AND SPIKE thru Oct 25

Berkeley Repertory Theatre's Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike is a hit with audiences and critics alike. Due to popular demand, this year's Tony Award winner for Best Play from three-time Obie Award-winner Christopher Durang will now play through October 25 for an additional four performances. Critics agree that Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike is this fall's must-see, laugh-inducing comedy:

PENTATONIX to Perform, Judge UConn's A Cappella Sing-Off This Weekend

YouTube and NBC Sing-Off sensations, Pentatonix, will delight UConn Family Weekend audiences in two shows at Jorgensen on Saturday, Sept. 28, 2013, after judging a campus and regional high school a cappella competition tonight. And for a real a cappella a pportunity, the winning group from each division will open for Pentatonix on Jorgensen's stage for both Saturday shows, 7 and 9:30 p.m.

Founders, Past Presidents of NAMT to be Honored at SHOW OFF! Concert, 10/20

The National Alliance for Musical Theatre (NAMT) announced today that it will honor its Founders and Presidents, past and present, at SHOW OFF!, a benefit concert celebrating 25 years of NAMT's Annual Festival of New Musicals on Sunday, October 20 at 7pm at New York University's Skirball Center for the Performing Arts (566 LaGuardia Place at Washington Square).

Michael Shannon and More Cast in Chicago Humanities Festival's Nov 2013 Shows

The Chicago Humanities Festival (CHF) announced casting today for two theatrical productions in November: White Rabbit, Red Rabbit, the Iranian absurdist play about isolation co-presented with the Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA), running Nov. 3-9, 2013, and Birds Do It, Bees Do It..., the annual cabaret performance Nov. 5, 2013, created by Rob Lindley and Doug Peck.

MAD Opens BODY & SOUL: NEW INTERNATIONAL CERAMICS Today

The Museum of Arts and Design (MAD) will present Body & Soul: New International Ceramics, an exhibition featuring the work of 24 international ceramic artists addressing critical social and political issues through figurative sculpture. By way of clay, the figure becomes a catalyst for exploring the impact of contemporary pressures confronting societies today. Body & Soul will offer visitors a rare opportunity to experience a diverse range of ceramic artistry and expression. The exhibition will be on view at MAD today, September 24, 2013 - March 2, 2014.

NOISES OFF Opens this Weekend at CCT, 9/27

Opening this weekend, Curtain Call Performing Arts (CCPA) presents the stage comedy, Noises Off at the California Conservatory Theatre (CCT), in downtown San Leandro. Inside the intimate theatre venue of CCT audiences will laugh all night long to the hilarious play running September 27 through October 26, as the show closes out the 2012/2013 season for the budding company.

Roberto Bolle and Friends was a special evening of dance featuring international Ballet Stars. Roberto Bolle, principal dancer of the American Ballet Theatre and Ètoile of La Scala in Milan acted as both artistic director and star as he danced alongside the world's top dancers performing pas de deux and solos from both classic and modern ballets. Delia Ephron, Bill T. Jones and More Set for Chicago Humanities Festival's 'Northwestern' and 'Hyde Park' Days, 10/13 & 20

The Chicago Humanities Festival (CHF) presents the third annual Morry and Dolores Kohl Kaplan Northwestern Day on Oct. 13 on the Northwestern University campus, and the seventh annual Hyde Park Day on Oct. 20 on the University of Chicago campus. These two annual events kick off the 2013 Fall Festival, which will explore the theme of Animal: What Makes Us Human with 88 events throughout Chicago in October and Nov. 1-10.

Pianist Shai Wosner Performs Recital at SubCulture NYC Tonight

Pianist Shai Wosner will perform a Franz Schubert-themed recital program at SubCulture NYC tonight, September 17 at 7:30 p.m. - the first recital in SubCulture's new piano series, with 14 performances over 15 days, featuring prominent jazz, classical, and rock pianists. Tickets to the recital are priced at $25 and available on the SubCulture website. Mr. Wosner, noted as a pianist at the 'front rank of the Schubertians' by BBC Music Magazine, will play Schubert's Klavierstuck in E-flat minor, D. 946, No. 1, Jorg Widmann's Idyll and Abyss (Six Schubert Reminiscences), and Schubert's final Sonata in B-flat major, D. 960.

MoMA Announces New Museum Research Consortium

The Museum of Modern Art announces the creation of the Museum Research Consortium, a new partnership with the graduate art history programs at Princeton University, Yale University, Columbia University, the Institute of Fine Arts at New York University, and the Graduate Center at the City University of New York. Directed by Leah Dickerman, Curator in MoMA's Department of Painting and Sculpture, and funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the Consortium serves a number of goals including: the development of a stronger dialogue between the Museum and academic colleagues; furthering the collaborative study of key objects in the Museum's collection; and the creation of a framework for the Museum's participation in the training and education of the next generation of art historians and museum curators. The Consortium's first class of pre-doctoral fellows, drawn from the five partner institutions, begin their work at MoMA this month.

WE THREE LIZAS, BRAHMAN/I & More Set for About Face Theatre's 2013-14 Season

About Face Theatre is pleased to announce its 2013-14 programming, showcasing premiere productions and developmental works that explore gender and sexual identity. AFT's mainstage kicks-off this winter with the return of the hit holiday musical WE THREE LIZAS, featuring a new book and expanded score. In the spring, AFT presents the Chicago premiere of Aditi Brennan Kapil's stand-up comedy play, BRAHMAN/I, exploring gender, culture, mythology and puberty all through the lens of a hijra, an Indian intersex person. Next summer, About Face Youth Theatre investigates the intersection of immigration and queer identity in the world premiere of CHECKING BOXES. AFT's 2013-14 offerings will also feature the OUT FRONT Series, a year-round line-up of workshops and readings of new and developmental works by LGBTQA playwrights, as well as a month-long PRIDE CABARET Music Series in June 2014.
