Richard Dresser's BELOW THE BELT Opens at Westbeth Tonight

Delving into the darkly absurd corners of corporate America and middle-man-purgatory, director Michael Sladek makes his NYC stage debut with a fresh production of Below the Belt by acclaimed playwright, Richard Dresser. Presented by Black Lodge Theater, the work will be staged in the old boiler room of the iconic Westbeth Center for the Arts.

TNT Orders Supernatural Drama PROOF with Jennifer Beals to Series

TNT has greenlit the supernatural drama Proof, starring Jennifer Beals (The L Word, Flashdance), Matthew Modine (And the Band Played On, Weeds) and Joe Morton (Scandal, Terminator 2: Judgment Day). Also starring in the series are Callum Blue (Dead Like Me, Royal Pains), Edi Gathegi (X-Men: First Class, Justified), Annie Thurman (The Hunger Games), Sean Gleeson (Doctors, Cold Mountain) and newcomer Caroline Rose Kaplan.

Lincoln Center Theater Launches Playwriting Contest in Conjunction with ACT ONE

In honor of playwright Moss Hart, Lincoln Center Theater offers a "once in a lifetime" playwriting contest in conjunction with its Tony nominated play, Act One. ACT ONE, a play written and directed by James Lapine, from the autobiography by Moss Hart, is currently playing at the Vivian Beaumont Theater (150 West 65th Street).

Huntington's Spotlight Spectacular Raises Over $980,000

Spectacular Broadway entertainment and more than 400 guests celebrated Wimberly Award recipients Huntington Trustee John D. Spooner and Tony Award-winning director Mary Zimmerman (The Jungle Book and Candide) while raising more than $980,000 (with additional gifts still coming in) to support the Huntington's renowned education and community programs at the Huntington Theatre Company's Spotlight Spectacular last Monday, April 28. 'Transforming lives,' said Managing Director Michael Maso. 'That's why we are here - to ensure another year of access to the Huntington's programs for thousands of young people.' The total raised also includes proceeds from an online auction that closed Friday evening, May 2.

Acme Theatre Presents SCI-FEST, Hollywood's First Annual Science Fiction One-Act Play Festival, Now thru 6/1

SCI-FEST, the 1st Annual Los Angeles Science Fiction One-Act Play Festival premieres at The ACME Theatre (135 N. La Brea Avenue) featuring two different, riveting evenings ('A' and 'B' rotating weekly) of new and classic sci fi works. Evening 'A' premieres tonight, May 6. Evening 'B' premieres Tuesday, May 13. Performances will run Tuesdays - Saturdays @ 8 PM; Sundays at 3 PM through June 1, 2014.

Nicholas Parsons, Scott Alan, Mitch Winehouse and More Set for The Hippodrome, May-June 2014

The Hippodrome's live entertainment programme continues with a varied offering of music, burlesque, cabaret and more including a four night run from popular US songwriter Scott Alan, a concert celebrating the best of The Great British Musicals hosted by Nicholas Parsons, an exclusive preview of award-winning singer Sarah Jane Morris' new album, and the return of Mitch Winehouse's monthly residency in aid of The Amy Winehouse Foundation which will feature an array of very special guests.

THE BROTHERS SIZE to Run 6/7-7/27 at the Fountain

Shirley Jo Finney, director of the Fountain Theatre's multiple award-winning production of In the Red and Brown Water in 2012, returns to direct the second play in Tarell Alvin McCraney's 'Brother/Sister Plays' trilogy. The Los Angeles premiere of The Brothers Size opens June 7 at the Fountain for a limited engagement that must close July 27.

Blank Theatre Announces 2014 Young Playwrights Festival Winners

Now celebrating its 22nd Anniversary, The Blank Theatre's Nationwide Young Playwrights Festival has chosen 12 plays by young playwrights aged 16 - 19, from seven different states. These plays will be presented by professional actors and directors in this year's festival at The Stella Adler Theatre in Hollywood, June 5 - 29.

Reelz to Premiere TOTALLY TRACKED DOWN on 5/6

Chicago Humanities Festival Announces 25th Anniversary Fall Festival, 10/25-11/9

The Chicago Humanities Festival (CHF) announcesJourneys as the theme for the 25th Anniversary Fall Festival. More than 80 programs will take place in and around Chicago Oct. 25-Nov. 9, 2014 as part of the annual arts and ideas festival. Confirmed 2014 presenters include jazz composer-pianist Vijay Iyer, NYU professor and scholar of travel narratives Mary Louise Pratt, Top Chef Masters winnerMarcus Samuelsson, graphic novelist Marjane Satrapi, TV/film actress Victoria Tennant, and author/playwright Colm Toibin. A complete schedule will be released in August at chicagohumanities.org/journeys. Tickets to the 25th Anniversary Chicago Humanities Festival go on sale to CHF members on Tuesday, Sept. 2 and to the general public on Monday, Sept. 8.
