As The Old Globe's 2019 Summer Shakespeare Festival continues, the theatre today announced the cast and creative team of the love-filled tragedy Romeo and Juliet. The Globe's Erna Finci Viterbi Artistic Director Barry Edelstein returns to direct the greatest love story of all time, after helming a smash-hit production of Othello and a sales-record-breaking production of Hamlet. Performances will run August 11 - September 15 outdoors under the stars in the Globe's Lowell Davies Festival Theatre. Tickets start at $30.00 and are on sale to the general public now. The Welk Resort Theatre's production of Mamma Mia is a cheerful high energy entertainment, a worthy example of why the musical has been a favorite of many dozens of production companies around the world since its 1999 London premiere. The story is set on the Greek island of Kalokairi where we learn that Sophie, a 20-year-old bride-to-be, doesn't know who her father is. She's secretly read in her mother Donna's diary that it must be one of three men Donna had brief affairs with 20 years ago. Determined to find out which one it is, Sophie has invited them to her wedding without telling her mother.
This June, New York City teens will have the opportunity to work with renowned jazz pianist and composer Fred Hersch as part of theFuture Music Project Ensemble, a dynamic collective of young musicians that writes, produces, and performs original music at Carnegie Hall and around the city. On Thursday, June 14 at 7:00 p.m., the ensemble performs with Hersch at SubCulture on the Lower East Side, followed by a second concert at El Museo del Barrio on Saturday, June 16 as part of theSuper Sabado Block Party, with street games, art making, and performances from 12:00 - 5:00 p.m., including a Carnegie Hall Neighborhood Concert by El Barrio's own Johnny Colon. Hersch has been working with the teens in workshops this spring, and will be collaborating with them as part of both concerts, which will include a new work by Hersch as well as music inspired by the 1960s.

The annual concert, produced by the Musical Stage Company, pays tribute to some of the greatest musicians in the world. Welk Resort Theatre, located in Escondido at the historic Welk Resort, will open A CHRISTMAS CAROL on Friday, November 17th. The production is led by director, Larry Raben. Choreography is by Karl Warden with Musical Direction by Justin Gray. A CHRISTMAS CAROL runs through December 31st. After this production, the Welk Theatre will temporarily close for an extensive lobby remodeling project - and will reopen with live musical theatre performances as soon as the fall of 2018.
