Birmingham Hippodrome's smash-hit pantomime Aladdin closes on 31 January following a spectacular six week run of 74 performances. With over 118,000 admissions, Aladdin becomes the theatre's best-selling pantomime in 14 years.

Hosted by Julian Clary, with an introduction by Ian McKellen, the evening of song, speech and music was held to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Ian Charleson Day Centre at the Royal Free Hospital. It included performances by Michael Cashman, Rupert Everett, Anne Reid and Stefan Bednarczyk, the X Factor's Anton Stephans, mezzo-soprano Sarah Connolly, actor Jack Lowden and the London Gay Men's Choir. Speakers included Nick Partridge, Laurence Isaacson and Sean Mathias.

Cinderella is probably the most popular pantomime of all and QDOS have many productions of this around the country as well as other favourites. Last night I went to see Wolverhampton's version of the classic and it was as lavish and flamboyant as you would expect…and that isn't even taking into account Julian Clary's costumes!
