Celebrate a new selection of middle-grade novels from Carolrhoda Books, a division of Lerner Publishing Group, this spring! Six new fun and engaging titles will delight middle grade readers, teachers, and families alike.

"Carolrhoda is thrilled to bring our Spring 2016 list of middle-grade novels to the market," said Alix Reid, associate publisher of trade. "We wanted to build a middle-grade line within Carolrhoda that exemplifies the quality of our brand, and this season represents exactly the kind of list we want: an eclectic mix of books that appeals directly to middle-school kids with a variety of subjects, characters, and stories."

If you're interested in island adventures, small-town kidnappings, talking animals, or circus adventures-or if you're simply interested in high-quality books aimed at middle-grade readers-explore the diverse new titles from award-winning Carolrhoda Books.

Six new titles will be released this spring from a diverse list of authors, including debut novelists and veteran authors:

In The Black Dragon, the first book in Julian Sedwick's Mysterium series, readers meet Danny Woo, a twelve-year-old with an unusual childhood. His parents were the star performers in the Mysterium circus-and they taught Danny plenty of tricks. But his parents' skills couldn't save them from dying in a suspicious fire. Now his aunt has been kidnapped, and Danny must use every trick he knows to rescue her from an international criminal organization.

The Bolds by author and comedian Julian Clary, is a zany new book about a very unusual family. The Bold family seems fairly normal, but they're keeping one hilarious secret: they're hyenas. That's right-they're covered in fur, have tails tucked into their clothes, and really, really like to laugh. Will their neighbors ever find out?

Jane Hardstaff's The Executioner's Daughter introduces readers to Moss, who has been trapped inside the Tower of London all her life with her father, the executioner for King Henry VIII. She's so desperate to see the outside world that even chilling stories of what lies beyond won't stop her.

Award-winning author Elizabeth Atkinson, author of I, Emma Freke, brings us The Island of Beyond. Awkward, unsocial eleven-year-old Martin is being packed off to spend the summer with his weird great-aunt Lenore, who lives on a tiny island in rural Maine called Beyond. Martin knows it's going to be a terrible summer . . . but nothing about Beyond is what Martin expects.

In The Maypop Kidnapping by C. M. Surrisi, Quinnie's teacher has disappeared from Maiden Rock. Quinnie suspects a kidnapping, but her mom, the town sheriff, just thinks the teacher has left town. So Quinnie teams up with her glamorous new neighbor, Mariella, to solve the mystery. As the girls hunt for clues around Maiden Rock, they encounter a cast of unlikely characters. And if Quinnie's hunch is right, the search may lead them right into danger . . .

When Mateo Martinez spots two skunks stealing his trike in Robin Yardi's The Midnight War of Mateo Martinez, he knows he's too big for that rusty kid toy. But Mateo also has a neighborhood to protect, and he's about to begin a big, stinky quest to catch the thieves. A quest that starts in the middle of the night!
