Lyric Theatre, Oklahoma's premiere professional theatre company, opens the 2009 'Lyric at the Plaza' season with The Who's Tommy, playing from February 5th through 21st. Produced in collaboration with the University of Oklahoma's Weitzenhoffer Department of Musical Theatre, this production of Tommy blends young Oklahoma talent with the experience and polish of exceptional Broadway performers. Tommy, the stunning stage adaptation of the 1969 rock opera by the legendary British rock group, The Who, made history in 1993 when it opened on Broadway and brought authentic rock music into the musical theatre realm. The Who's Pete Townshend played a vital part in the creation of the show, staying true to the album's identity as a rock and roll piece, while simultaneously allowing actors to fully develop its drama and bring the emotionally raw and moving story to a final conclusion of reconciliation and forgiveness.

The UNLV Performing Arts Center presents Defying Gravity: The Music of Stephen Schwartz in Concert at 8 p.m. on Saturday, January 31 as part of the New York Stage & Beyond Series. Schwartz, an American musical theatre lyricist and composer, is a three-time Grammy Award winner; four-time Academy Award winner; and a nine-time Tony Award nominee. The revue includes songs from his works Wicked, Pocahontas, Godspell, and Pippin sung by veteran Broadway performers Julia Murney (Wicked, The Wild Party), David Burnham (Wicked, Light in the Piazza), and Farah Alvin (Grease, Saturday Night Fever). The production is directed by Gordon Greenberg (Happy Days: The Musical).

The Laurie Beechman Theatre, located within The West Bank Caf? (407 West 42nd St.), is pleased to continue our Friday night soiree, THE AFTER PARTY. Now going strong it's third, THE AFTER PARTY is billed as 'a weekly schmoozefest for the theatrically inclined.' Every Friday from 10:30 pm until the wee hours, pros from Broadway and aspiring stars alike belt it out on the stage of The Laurie Beechman Theatre. Join hosts BRANDON CUTRELL (Bistor, MAC and Nightlife Award winner) and ALYSHA UMPHRESS (Make Me A Song) with RAY FELLMAN (Bistro Award winner) at the piano for this weekly party in the theatre district. Composer and lyricist Scott Alan returned to Birdland on January 12th for a concert featuring a starry line-up of Broadway performers. The January 12th performance featured selections from Alan's debut CD, 'Dreaming Wide Awake' and his recently released CD 'Keys.'

The Broadway Boys presented 'BROADWAY SINGS FOR TOYS!' a benefit for Toys For Tots. This year was the 4th installment of this special holiday concert/celebration. The benefit took take place December 14th at 9PM at The Zipper Factory, 336 W. 37th Street.

Broadway in South Africa, the non-profit organization that brings Broadway professionals to South Africa as teaching artists and performers, has listed a number of special auction items on eBay.

Acclaimed New York based singer/songwriter Jeremy Schonfeld will take the stage at Boston University's GSU Conference Auditorium on Thursday, December 11, 2008 at 8:00pm in collaboration with Boston University's premiere musical theatre group, BU on Broadway. With music from 37 Notebooks, Drift, and other upcoming projects, the solo piano concert features special guest Amy Spanger. The concert will also feature students from BU On Broadway who auditioned for the concert via YouTube, who will collaborate with Schonfeld and Spanger to perform material in the end-of-the-semester concert.

Dust, a new thriller starring Emmy Award nominee Richard Masur (Democracy, 'All My Children') and Tony Award nominee Hunter Foster (Urinetown, Little Shop of Horrors), began performances at The Westside Theatre (downstairs) on November 18th. Written by Billy Goda and directed by Scott Zigler, Dust also features Laura E. Campbell, Curtis McClarin and John Schiappa. The production celebrated opening night on Thursday, December 4th.
