On September 27 2016, Nancy Dussault presented 'MY LIFE UPON THE WICKED STAGE' at FEINSTEIN'S/54 BELOW, Broadway's Supper Club. Nancy took the audience on a musical journey, returning to the heady days of her Broadway life. Expect this Golden Age leading lady to sing the brilliant songs of Richard Rodgers, Jule Styne,Burton Lane, and Stephen Sondheim. Nancy also regaled the audience with tales of being the first co-host of Good Morning America, co-starring in the New Dick Van Dyke show, and starring with Ted Knight in 'Too Close For Comfort', before returning to Broadway in Side By Side By Sondheim and Into The Woods. In 'My Life-Upon The Wicked Stage' Dussault brought her musicality, comedic storytelling, and unique personal accessibility to songs including 'Getting Married Today', 'Look To The Rainbow', 'Where Is The Tribe For Me', 'Old Friend' and of course, ' Make Someone Happy'.
BWW Review: Melissa Errico Tackles the Big Questions of Life and Art in FUNNY, I'M A WOMAN WITH CHILDREN at Feinstein's/54 Below
by Casey Mink
- Sep 27, 2016
In preparation for her return engagement at Feinstein's/54 Below, Melissa Errico was looking for answers, but she ended up with far more questions. In fact, much of the Tony-nominated mother of three's life and career as of late seems to be cloaked in indefinable uncertainty. She recently penned an op-ed for The New York Times detailing the confounding reality of being an actress who is not yet old but no longer 'an ingenue' and yet continues to work in the business of Broadway.
Errico is all too aware of the current impasse of her life and, in an embrace, she dedicated her show, FUNNY, I'M A WOMAN WITH CHILDREN, to that very not-knowing. Nearly all of her songs throughout her performance on September 20---the first of four in her run---had the central theme of questioning because, as artists have done for centuries and which Errico set out to do this evening, to make sense of life through art is any creator's most powerful capability.
BWW Review: Patti LuPone: No Monkeying Around in Worcester
by Nancy Grossman
- Sep 21, 2016
Music Worcester had a grand opening to its 157th season last night at beautiful Mechanics Hall, a treasure in downtown Worcester, presenting Patti LuPone in her latest solo concert program, DON'T MONKEY WITH BROADWAY. She shared the stage with her fantastic musical director/accompanist Joseph Thalken, and was joined by The Worcester Chorus for several songs in the second act. It was thrilling to hear so many signature songs performed live by one of the great Broadway divas.
BWW Review: GYPSY at Music Theatre Of Connecticut
by Melinda Zupaniotis
- Sep 19, 2016
With a minimalist set depicting an abandoned stage - brick wall, ladder, random set pieces, and a piano - Music Theatre of Connecticut begins its 30th season with the iconic musical, Gypsy. Written in 1959, Gypsy harnesses the dream-team creative talents of music by Jule Styne, lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, and book by Arthur Laurents, plus the original production was directed and choreographed by Jerome Robbins. All of these legends combined certainly raises the bar for expectation, and therefore, this show can be a difficult one for any theatre to produce. All in all, MTC did a good job of presenting this whirlwind piece. You should go!
