Today, BroadwayWorld.com is announcing the nominees for the 2011 BroadwayWorld Chicago Awards! Representatives of 67 different theater productions, which played at 40 different Chicagoland theaters, are nominated in the 25 categories for the second annual Awards. As these are the only Theater Fan Choice Awards for the internationally known Chicago theater scene, the nominees rightly come from both Equity and Non-Equity theater companies, and from the worlds of plays, musicals, revues and touring shows.
Internet sensation Team StarKid kicks off its first national tour: The SPACE Tour (StarKid Precarious Auditory Concert Experience), at The Michigan Theater in Ann Arbor, TONIGHT, Friday, November 4 at 8 p.m. The SPACE Tour features a cast of StarKid veterans performing hits from the company's acclaimed original comedy musicals A Very Potter Musical, A Very Potter Sequel, Me and My Dick, and Starship. Vincent Rivers, presented by Theatre Britain in cooperation with Uptown Players, is now running through Jun. 21 at the KD Studio Theatre, is a story that has at its core a hate-based crime, the murder of a young British male named Vincent River. Where this story departs from the manner hate crimes are dealt with in the country, usually as news sound bites, Vincent River takes an organic journey into the mindset of the parent(s) and their quest to understand who their homosexual child was.
Signature Theatre Company continues its celebration of the Negro Ensemble Company (NEC) with special presentations of three more plays from the historic NEC repertoire. Curated by NEC Founder Douglas Turner Ward, Signature Associate Artist Ruben Santiago-Hudson and the Signature Theatre Company staff, these plays will be read on stage at the Peter Norton Space (555 West 42nd Street) on select evenings throughout the season. These classic works give greater insight into the history of this vital and groundbreaking company.
