THE KING AND I is bringing more than a great show to Omaha. Jose Llana, who stars as the King of Siam, says, 'I think it's healthy to have conversation, especially in this political climate, when the country is so divided to tell a story about a world leader extending a hand of friendship to a person from another country. That's the story we're telling and the message that we're trying to convey.'

Rodgers and Hammerstein have been a household name for many years. Even younger generations know them as one of the greatest musical duo's in the history of Broadway. With the creation of THE KING AND I, Rodgers and Hammerstein proved that they would take their place in history amongst the greats.

The success of THE KING AND I over the years has been nothing short of remarkable. The movie version from the 1950's brought Yul Brynner to center stage as he played the role of this famous king. With so many incarnations of the iconic musical there have been quite a few actors who have worked hard to shed the Brynner version of the King and portray him in the way it's most comfortable for them. One such actor is veteran performer Jose Llana. BWW had the opportunity recently to chat with Llana as he is out on tour with THE KING AND I.

A touring company of Rodgers and Hammerstein's THE KING AND I is currently playing the Fox Theatre, and it's a very engaging revival of the classic musical. It's an elegant and entertaining show that won a Tony for best revival in 2015, and it's easy to see why. With familiar and lovely songs like Getting to Know You and the rousing Shall We Dance, this venerable warhorse still lights up the stage, and I thoroughly recommend it!

Opening tonight at the Saenger Theatre is the Rodgers and Hammerstein classic THE KING AND I. It's the story of an English governess who is brought to the court of Siam to educate the king's children and wives at a time when Siam is in danger of Western colonialism and women are still used as a peace offering between nations. With familiar songs like Getting to Know You and Shall We Dance, this is a gorgeous show with an incredible message of compassion, compromise, and empowerment that audiences of all ages can learn from and enjoy.
