Victory Gardens and the One-Minute Play Festival (OMPF) present the Third Annual Chicago One-Minute Play Festival, an evening of micro-plays by sixty of Chicago's top playwrights, directed by ten Chicago directors. The World Premiere of playwright Paul Fontana's Resurrection of the Ants, directed by Gary Wolf and produced by Michael Abramson (Jekyll and Hyde), opens Friday June 21st at The Hayworth: Upper Level in Los Angeles (2511 Wilshire Blvd. 90057). Resurrection of the Ants plays Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m. through July 28th. The price is $25 on Friday and Saturday, $20 on Sunday. Sundance Institute welcomes 13 projects, selected for its annual June Directors and Screenwriters Labs, taking place at the Sundance Resort in Utah from today, May 27 through June 27. Under the leadership of Michelle Satter, Founding Director of the Institute's Feature Film Program, and the artistic direction of Gyula Gazdag, the Fellows selected for this year's program include emerging filmmakers and projects from the United States, Europe, Mexico, Peru and Somalia.

There is always a certain electric buzz that seems to surround any production of a show with a recognizable title. Some people will research the origin of the show, and with John Guare's SIX DEGREES OF SEPARATION, they'll find that Frigyes Karinthy, a Hungarian author, playwright, poet, journalist, and translator was the first proponent of the theory that everyone is connected to everyone else by six or fewer degrees of separation. He examined this in his 1929 short story, 'Chains' (Lancszemek). This very theory was popularized by the 1990 play and 1993 film adaption of SIX DEGREES OF SEPARATION. People might remember that following the success of the play and the film, while watching FOOTLOOSE, students at Albright College created the game 'Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon.' Those people will recall how everyone in the 90s was figuring out how every actor and actress was connected to Kevin Bacon through their work in film and commercials. Elements such as these build anticipation for productions of shows with mane recognition.

On Monday, May 13 Theatre Communications Group (TCG), the national organization for Theatre honored Ruth and Stephen Hendel and Ming Cho Lee at their Gala Evening. The evening was held at the Angel Orensanz Foundation (172 Norfolk Street) in New York City, cocktails started at 6pm and dinner started at 7pm. Jessica Hecht was the emcee of the evening; the Gala co-chairs were playwright Lydia R. Diamond and interior designer Jasmine M. Keller. The Gala honorary chairs were Anne Kaufman, Obie award-winning director; Nelle Nugent, Broadway producer; Judith O. Rubin, chairman of the board of Playwrights Horizons; and Liz Smith, gossip columnist. The event hosted 200 guests and surpassed its financial goal. Scroll down for photos from the gala!

Theatre Southwest is currently producing a fascinating production of Tennessee William's thrilling and tense THE NIGHT OF THE IGUANA. The 1961 drama is set at The Costa Verde Hotel in Puerto Barrio on the West Coast of Mexico in the summer of 1940. The Reverend T. Lawrence Shannon is leading a tour group of Baptist women from Texas through Mexico, but makes an unplanned stop at the hotel, which is owned and operated by his friend, Maxine Falk. Over the course of the afternoon and evening, Shannon slowly unravels, exposing his secrets and sins. An impoverished and entirely broke New England spinster, Hannah Jelkes, and her aging grandfather, a poet losing his mind, arrive at the hotel as well. Without any money, the duo hopes to lodge at the hotel with the promise to earn some money and pay upon checkout.

Victory Gardens Theater announces 2013-14 Season: the Co-World Premiere of Appropriate by Branden Jacobs-Jenkins, directed by Gary Griffin, developed, in part, by IGNITION 2012 and presented in association with Actors Theatre of Louisville; the World Premiere of Victory Gardens Ensemble Playwright Marcus Gardley's The Gospel of Lovingkindess; and the classic Death and the Maiden by Ariel Dorfman, directed by Chay Yew and featuring Sandra Oh.

Rattlestick Playwrights Theater's production of the world premiere of Jesse Eisenberg's The Revisionist, starring Eisenberg and Vanessa Redgrave, and directed by Kip Fagan, has been extended for three weeks though Sunday, April 21, at the Cherry Lane Theatre, 38 Commerce Street. Sundance Institute and India's Mahindra Group today announced the four winners of the 2013 Sundance Institute | Mahindra Global Filmmaking Awards, in recognition and support of emerging independent filmmakers from around the world. The winning directors and projects are: Sarthak Dasgupta, THE MUSIC TEACHER from India; Jonas Carpignano, A CHJANA from Italy-US; Aly Muritiba, THE MAN WHO KILLED MY BELOVED DEAD from Brazil; and Vendela Vida & Eva Weber, LET THE NORTHERN LIGHTS ERASE YOUR NAME from UK-Germany-US.

The inaugural production of the Kindling Theater Company-the world premiere of The Future Is Not What It Was, written by Michael Rabe and directed by Jay Stull-began on Saturday, January 12 at 8pm. The production plays at Soho Rep's Walkerspace, 46 Walker Street. The opening night is set for tonight, January 21 at 8pm.
