Next Theatre Company Announces 31st Anniversary Season

Next Theatre Company announces their 31st anniversary season main stage productions. The season includes one of the most talked about productions at the 2011 Humana Festival, Maple and Vine by Jordan Harrison and directed by Damon Kiely, the United States premiere of The Girl in the Yellow Dress by South African playwright Craig Higginson and directed by Joanie Schultz and the Midwest premiere of After the Revolution by Amy Herzog and directed by Kimberly Senior.

Joan Stein and Richard Frankel (Producers) announced today that the new theatrical event Standing On Ceremony: The Gay Marriage Plays, which premieres Off Broadway at the Minetta Lane Theatre in NYC this fall, will join with Tectonic Theater Project (Moisés Kaufman, Artistic Director; Greg Reiner, Executive Director) to help take the play's message of marriage equality across the globe.

Joan Stein and Richard Frankel, producers of Standing on Ceremony: The Gay Marriage Plays, announced today that Tony Award-winner Beth Leavel (The Drowsy Chaperone) and stage and screen veteran Richard Thomas (most recently seen in Race) will complete the show's premiere cast. They join previously announced cast members Craig Bierko (The Music Man), Mark Consuelos ('All My Children'), Polly Draper ('thirtysomething') and Harriet Harris (Thoroughly Modern Millie) in the production, which begins previews on Monday, November 7 with an official opening night set for Sunday, November 13 at the Minetta Lane Theatre (18 Minetta Lane, NYC).

For one night only, on Monday, November 7, curtains will rise on Standing On Ceremony: The Gay Marriage Plays across America and beyond as participating theaters everywhere present the play to raise awareness and funds in support of marriage equality. Marriage equality is an issue that transcends borders, and it's vital that the message of Standing On Ceremony reaches far and wide. The concert features the music of emerging composers Justin Levine (Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson), Shaina Taub (The Daughters), and Daniel Zaitchik (Picnic at Hanging Rock), and will be hosted by The Book of Mormon's Andrew Rannells. The music will be performed by a host of Broadway and Off-Broadway stars, including Jeannette Bayardelle, Matt Doyle, Demon Green, Grace McLean, Kathy Voytko, Teal Wicks and Betsy Wolfe. The concert will take place in the Ars Nova theater on Monday, October 3 at 7:00pm. Proceeds from the evening will help support Ars Nova?s extensive artistic development initiatives and programming.
