STAGE TUBE: Trumbull School Board Officially Cancels RENT

As BroadwayWorld previously reported, Trumbull High School has had their spring musical, the school edition of RENT, halted by school administrators. On Monday, Nov. 25, first-year principal Marc Guarino called a Thespian Society meeting, announcing that their planned production of Jonathan Larson's hit rock opera would be cancelled, according to Howard Sherman. Since then, the Board of Education has met, deciding to support the principal's decision to cancel the show. Board chairman Deborah Herbst said: 'Without proper planning, Rent, the school edition, has the potential to become a speech rather than a meaningful dialogue."

With a handful of performances around the nation, Broadway Records is excited to be releasing MEET JOHN DOE (Studio Cast Album). The Jonathan Larson Award-winning musical by Andrew Gerle and Ernie Sugarman is based on the 1941 Frank Capra film of the same title that starred Barbara Stanwyck and Gary Cooper. Broadway Records' recording captures the flashy, toe-tapping Big Band score in all of its glory and features some of modern musical theatre's favorite voices, namely Robert Cuccioli, Andrew Keenan-Bolger, and Heidi Blickenstaff.

The Fred Ebb Foundation (Mitchell Bernard, Trustee) in association with the Roundabout Theatre Company (Todd Haimes, Artistic Director) presented the ninth annual Fred Ebb Award for aspiring musical theatre songwriters to Michael Kooman and Christopher Dimond, last night. The award, named in honor of the late award-winning lyricist Fred Ebb, was presented by Joel Grey at a by-invitation-only ceremony in the Penthouse Lounge of The American Airlines Theater. The Underclassman follows the early life of F. Scott Fitzgerald, from 1914 - 1917.
