Segerstrom Center for the Arts and the producers of the RENT 20th Anniversary Tour, the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award®-winning landmark rock musical written by Jonathan Larson, announce casting for the upcoming National Tour. The award-winning musical will return to Orange County January 6 - 8, 2017 in Segerstrom Hall.

In what has become an annual ritual, a total of 32 established and emerging composers, lyricists, and librettists will converge on the Goodspeed campus from mid-January through mid-February 2017 to participate in the Johnny Mercer Foundation Writers Colony at Goodspeed Musicals. The writing teams, representing 18 new musicals, will populate the campus, creating a truly exciting environment for discovery and inspiration.

Prospect Theater Company, under the leadership of Cara Reichel, Producing Artistic Director, and Melissa Huber, Managing Director, continues its 2016 IGNITE Series a special one-night-only event at The Times Center (242 West 41st Street, NYC).

RENT comes to Toronto in this epic rock musical that inspired a generation.

Playwright Liz Meriwether and director Shira Milikowsky host a benefit on Monday, December 19th at 7:30pm at The McKittrick Hotel's The Heath (542 West 27th Street, NYC). The evening will include performances of new work, inspired by Trump's tweet, 'The theater must always be a safe and special place.' 

Twenty years after it first premiered off Broadway, Jonathan Larson's iconic musical Rent has made a much anticipated return to the London stage. Following a group of artists living in New York City's East Village in the 1990's, struggling to pay the Rent, maintain their relationships and friendships and a number of them dealing with their HIV diagnosis, it is often wondered if audiences will still connect with the tribulations the characters go through. However the themes of loss, community, friendship and love are as prominent now as they were over two decades ago.

This is the final week to see Keen Company's acclaimed new production of Jonathan Larson's Tick, Tick...BOOM! After a historic (for Keen Company!) 11-week run, Tick, Tick...BOOM! will play its final performance this Sunday, December 18th.

The reading is free and open to the public at Abingdon Theatre Company's June Havoc Theatre (312 West 36th Street). Danya Taymor is set to direct.

Dramatists Guild Fund Salons offer you a behind-the-scenes peek into the creative process of the writers of the American Theater presenting award-winning dramatists as they share never-before-heard stories behind their most beloved works. In addition to sharing their inspiration, they also often invite the stars who brought their work to life onstage. The most recent subjects of this series were composer Matthew Sklar and lyricist/ book writer Chad Beguelin.

Pipeline Theatre Company has announced Beardo, with book and lyrics by Jason Craig (Beowulf - A Thousand Years of Baggage), music by Dave Malloy (Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812), and directed by Ellie Heyman (The Traveling Imaginary). Beardo will take place at St. John's Lutheran Church (155 Milton Street, Brooklyn - G Train, Greenpoint Stop).

Anthony Rapp graces the intimately beautiful stage of the St. James Theatre's studio for a series of live concerts. Last seen on the American tour of If/Then (music by Tom Kitt, book and lyrics by Bryan Yorkley, and nominated for two Tony Awards), Rapp takes his rapt audiences on a journey made of songs dear to his heart, introducing them one by one with brief albeit always poignant stories.

Audience members at Friday's performance of Something Rotten received quite the treat when Adam Pascal, currently appearing as Rotten's very own pretty boy front man, William Shakespeare, performed One Song Glory to benefit fundraising efforts for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. Pascal first performed the famous tune on Broadway when he originated the role of Roger in the original production of Jonathan Larson's iconic musical about a group of friends and artists struggling to survive in New York City in the midst of the AIDS crisis.

Jonathan Larson's work continues to live on, this time in concert.
