Segerstrom Center for the Arts and the producers of the RENT 20th Anniversary Tour, the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award®-winning landmark rock musical written by Jonathan Larson, announce casting for the upcoming National Tour. The award-winning musical will return to Orange County January 6 - 8, 2017 in Segerstrom Hall.

In what has become an annual ritual, a total of 32 established and emerging composers, lyricists, and librettists will converge on the Goodspeed campus from mid-January through mid-February 2017 to participate in the Johnny Mercer Foundation Writers Colony at Goodspeed Musicals. The writing teams, representing 18 new musicals, will populate the campus, creating a truly exciting environment for discovery and inspiration.

Twenty years after it first premiered off Broadway, Jonathan Larson's iconic musical Rent has made a much anticipated return to the London stage. Following a group of artists living in New York City's East Village in the 1990's, struggling to pay the Rent, maintain their relationships and friendships and a number of them dealing with their HIV diagnosis, it is often wondered if audiences will still connect with the tribulations the characters go through. However the themes of loss, community, friendship and love are as prominent now as they were over two decades ago.

Audience members at Friday's performance of Something Rotten received quite the treat when Adam Pascal, currently appearing as Rotten's very own pretty boy front man, William Shakespeare, performed One Song Glory to benefit fundraising efforts for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. Pascal first performed the famous tune on Broadway when he originated the role of Roger in the original production of Jonathan Larson's iconic musical about a group of friends and artists struggling to survive in New York City in the midst of the AIDS crisis.
