The Ahmanson Foundation has awarded California State University, Los Angeles a two-year $1.5 million gift to update the University's State Playhouse. "This gift from The Ahmanson Foundation underscores the crucial role the arts play in our society," said Cal State LA President William A. Covino. "We're grateful to the foundation for its generous support of higher education and the arts."

Westport Country Playhouse's Family Festivities Series will present the new musical "Pete the Cat," based on the series of books by Kimberly and James Dean, on Sunday, April 2, for two performances, at 1 p.m., and 4 p.m.  Produced by Theatreworks USA, the show is recommended for ages 4 to 8. Running time is approximately one hour.  Tickets are $20. 

Broadway In Chicago has announced that single tickets for the upcoming RENT 20th Anniversary Tour engagement in Chicago will go on sale to the general public Wednesday, March 22, 2017. The popular musical will play the Oriental Theatre for a limited one-week engagement from May 9-14, 2017.

Don't Tell Mama is very pleased to announce that an additional performance of the new cabaret show Love Letter: Joe Iconis & Lauren Marcus do Johnny Cash & June Carter Cash has been added due to overwhelming demand. In addition to tonight's fully booked 7:30pm performance, the couple will perform the show on Saturday March 25th at 3pm.

J.L. 'Lynn' Singleton, President of the Providence Performing Arts Center (PPAC) and the producers of the RENT 20th Anniversary Tour have announced that an additional performance of RENT has been added, on Sunday, April 9 at 6:30 p.m. The RENT 20th Anniversary Tour will be at PPAC April 7 - 9, 2017, with performances on Friday at 7:30 p.m., Saturday at 2 & 8 p.m., and Sunday at 1 & 6:30 p.m.

The award-winning Vital Theatre Company has announced that FLIGHT SCHOOL THE MUSICAL, based on the book 'Flight School' by Lita Judge, with a book by Cara Lustik, lyrics by Joshua H. Pioneer Theatre Company continues its popular concert series with Chess, written by members of the pop music group ABBA, running for three performances only, March 10 - March 11, 2017 at Simmons Pioneer Memorial Theatre. 

Charles Busch and Penny Fuller, who appeared together as bosom buddies Mame and Vera in Auntie Mame at the Bay Street Theatre, will lend their voices to Monahan & Oyen's DIVA: Live From Hell. Busch (The Divine Sister, The Tale of the Allergist's Wife) will voice the manager of the dingy cabaret venue in Hell, where Desmond Channing (played by Monahan) is doomed to perform his torturous act for eternity. Fuller (Sunday in the Park with George, The Elephant Man), who was nominated for a Tony Award for her portrayal of Eve Harrington in the musical Applause, will voice the grandmother of Desmond Channing (loosely inspired by the character of Eve Harrington's nemesis, Margo Channing).

Ibex, Inc,  announced today that the world premiere for CRANE: ON EARTH, IN SKY, created by Heather Henson and Ty DeFoe with direction by Maija Gracia,  will take place at the Lied Center for the Performing Arts in Lincoln, Nebraska (www.liedcenter.org)  on March 9th and 10th. This will be followed by an engagement at the Merryman Performing Arts Center in Kearney, Nebraska (www.merrymancenter.org)  on March 13th.  A national tour and possible return to New York City are planned. An earlier version of the show was performed as part of the La Mama Theatre Puppet Series.

Hennepin Theatre Trust announced that RENT, the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning landmark rock musical written by Jonathan Larson, is celebrating its 20th Anniversary in a production that promises to be as impactful and exciting as the original. RENT is returning to Minneapolis as part of the 2016-2017 Bank of America Broadway on Hennepin Season June 6-11 at the historic Orpheum Theatre (910 Hennepin Avenue., Minneapolis).

New York Theatre Workshop (NYTW) announced today that the NYTW 2017 Spring Gala will celebrate partnerships with honorees Dartmouth College, whose residency partnership with NYTW spans a quarter of a century; along with longtime NYTW Usual Suspect and Tony Award-nominated Director Michael Greif (Dear Evan Hansen, War Paint), who was an inaugural member of NYTW's 'New Directors Project' in 1984 and rose to prominence with his direction of Machinal at the Public and Rent at NYTW. The Gala will be held on Monday, May 15 at the Edison Ballroom (240 W 47th St., New York, NY 10036).
