RENT, Jonathan Larson's famed rock opera that changed the course of a generation, opens at The Gateway in Bellport Village on Wednesday, May 17 and runs through June 3.

The American Theatre Wing (Heather Hitchens, President) and The Village Voice (Peter Barbey, CEO) have announced that Pulitzer Prize-wining playwright Paula Vogel will receive a special Obie Award for Lifetime Achievement at the 62nd Annual Obie Awards.

The View UpStairs - the provocative new musical written by Max Vernon, directed by Scott Ebersold and choreographed by Al Blackstone - will partner with Coming Out, a non-profit open-source platform for sharing diverse stories about coming out, for a special event after the performance on Thursday, April 27. Engage with peers, cast and creative members of The View UpStairs, and the Coming Out team as we celebrate the LGBTQ community's vibrant and diverse voices.  

Abingdon Theatre Company presents its first musical with the New York premiere of THE BOY WHO DANCED ON AIR, with music by Tim Rosser and book and lyrics by Charlie Sohne, winners of 2015 Jonathan Larson and Mary Rodgers/Lorenz Hart awards. Directed by Abingdon Theatre Company Artistic Director Tony Speciale, THE BOY WHO DANCED ON AIR plays four weeks only, May 15 through June 11, at the June Havoc Theatre (312 West 36th Street). Amas Musical Theatre (Donna Trinkoff, Artistic Producer) and The Amas Musical Theatre Lab will present staged readings of Love and Real Estate, three one-act musicals with book and lyrics by Sean Hartley and music by Sam Davis.

Chance Theater, Anaheim's official resident theater company, is delighted to present an encore presentation of Fancy Nancy, The Musical as part of its third season of Theater for Young Audiences. Acquisto and Sammy Buck for a book & CD signing celebrating Shakespeare's birthday. Friday, April 21st, 5:00pm event is free to the public. The RENT 20th Anniversary Tour will play the National Theatre, where the original touring production made its Washington-area premiere 20 years ago, for one week only, June 20 through 25, 2017.

It was just announced by Pulitzer Prize administrator Mike Pride that Lynn Nottage's SWEAT has officially won the 2017 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.
