Le Poisson Rouge to Celebrate 5th Anniversary, 6/7-16

Le Poisson Rouge celebrates its fifth anniversary June 7-16 with LPR X 5, a series of specially curated concerts that exemplify the venue's commitment to diverse musical programming. LPR has grown and evolved over the last five years, while staying true to the philosophy that inspired co-founders Justin Kantor and David Handler to open the venue. LPR is dedicated 'to the fusion of popular and art cultures in music, dance, literature, and visual art. The venue's mission is to revive the symbiotic relationship between art and revelry, to establish a creative asylum for both artists and audiences.'

NYC Opera Accepting Submissions for 2013-14 VOX

Today New York City Opera announced that it is accepting submissions for the 2013-14 VOX, the company's workshop for new American operas, presented in conjunction with OPERA America's New Works Forum. Composers can submit an excerpt of either a completed work or a work-in-progress. The selections cannot run longer than fifteen minutes. VOX is the only program in the country that provides full-instrumental and vocal performance to unpublished works. The submission deadline is June 30, 2013 and the selected pieces will be performed at the NYU Skirball Center on January 14, 2014.

NJ Symphony Presents 16th Annual UJA Benefit Concert Today

The New Jersey Symphony Orchestra and Jewish Federation of Greater MetroWest NJ present the 16th annual benefit concert in support of the United Jewish Appeal of MetroWest NJ (UJA) today, April 21, at 3 pm, at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC) in Newark. Clarinetist David Krakauer joins the Orchestra for Mozart's Clarinet Concerto, along with traditional klezmer works Synagogue Wail and Der Heyser Bulgar. Guest conductor Stefan Sanderling leads the Orchestra in the one-performance-only program, which opens with Copland's Appalachian Spring.

On Saturday, April 27 at 9:30 p.m. in Zankel Hall, critically acclaimed and Grammy Award-nominated jazz pianist and composer Vijay Iyer performs solo piano works and leads both his jazz trio and sextet for an evening of original music from his celebrated recordings. The pianist, noted by The New Yorker as one of 'today's most important pianists… extravagantly gifted… brilliantly eclectic,' performs alongside bassist Stephan Crump, drummer Tyshawn Sorey, trumpeter Graham Haynes, tenor saxophonist Mark Shim, and soprano and alto saxophonist Steve Lehman. This concert is presented by Carnegie Hall in partnership with Absolutely Live Entertainment LLC.

Clarinetist David Krakauer will join the Kronos Quartet on Friday, May 3, 2013 at 9pm, at Carnegie Hall's Zankel Hall (57th & 7th Avenue), as part of Late Nights at Zankel Hall. Krakauer will be featured on the New York premiere of Aleksandra Vrebalov's Babylon, Our Own. Also included on the program will be the world premiere of Missy Mazzoli's You Know Me From Here, Laurie Anderson's Flow (arr. Jacob Garchik), and the New York premiere of Valentin Silvestrov's String Quartet No. 3.

The Joyce Theater will welcome Khmer Arts Ensemble, under the artistic leadership of the acclaimed choreographer and dancer Sophiline Cheam Shapiro, back onto its stage for one week this spring - from April 9-14 - presenting the New York premiere of A Bend in the River, a contemporary fable. Tickets range in price from $10-$49 ($10-$37 for Joyce Theater members) and can be arranged through JoyceCharge at www.Joyce.org or by calling 212-242-0800. New Jazz Film NIGHT BIRD SONG: THE THOMAS CHAPIN STORY Launches Kickstarter Campaign

Emmy-winning filmmaker Stephanie J. Castillo is running a 45-day global fundraising campaign at Kickstarter.com to raise $50,000 to begin shooting her feature-length documentary film, NIGHT BIRD SONG: THE THOMAS CHAPIN STORY this summer. The shoot locations will include the New York City area, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts and Europe. The Kickstarter campaign was launched on February 13, and will end on March 31. The Kickstarter page is LIVE.

Jacob's Pillow Dance and MASS MoCA co-present world-renowned contemporary ballet ensemble Les Ballets Jazz de Montreal March 2-3 at MASS MoCA's Hunter Center for the Performing Arts. The Montreal-based dance company blends a variety of dance styles, influences, and music in three diverse works by prominent, international choreographers: Wen Wei Wang of Canada, Spain's Cayetano Soto, and Israeli-American dancemaker Barak Marshall. This co-presentation coincides with the final month of MASS MoCA's Oh, Canada exhibit, the largest survey of Canadian contemporary art ever produced outside of Canada.
