Acclaimed singer, songwriter and bassist Meshell Ndegeocello will co-headline Lincoln Center Out of Doors' concert in Damrosch Park on August 7, sharing a bill with Raul Midón. She replaces Rokia Traoré (previously announced) whose scheduled U.S. tour has been postponed. Ndegeocello blends jazz, funk, rock, rap and soul as she continues to develop the 'neo-soul' genre she is credited with sparking.

Richard Foreman And John Zorn Team Up At Ontological Theater

This year, Richard Foreman, that shape-shifting shaman, teams up with the equally hard-to-pin-down composer, John Zorn for Astronome: A Night At The Opera at The Ontological Theater at St. Mark's Church beginning February 5th. This is the historic first time collaboration for these two MacArthur geniuses who, individually, have challenged, enlightened and entertained adventurous audiences for years. Film is not in the mix this time around but Foreman's theater machine, with the inclusion of Zorn's invigorating score continues to explore his favorite resource, the special electricity projected by raw human consciousness.

Yoshi's recently announced prolific saxophonist, composer and MacArthur fellow, John Zorn will take up residence at Yoshi's San Francisco March 10th through 15th. Each of the 6 nights will feature a different ensemble performing Zorn?s works. The musicians featured nightly include some of the finest players in New York's Downtown scene including: Dave Douglas, Marc Ribot, Greg Cohen, Joey Baron, Erik Friedlander and Cyro Baptista.

Almeida Theater Company Announces Summer Programs

For its annual summer festival of contemporary opera, music and theatre, the Almeida Theatre will present a programme which includes the London premiere of An Ocean of Rain, a specially commissioned opera by Yannis Kyriakides and Daniel Danis, the European premiere of Adam Rapp's Nocturne and British African Theatre Company Tiata Fahodzi's first week long residency at the Almeida.
