ACME, the American Contemporary Music Ensemble, announces three New York concerts in May and an album release in June 2012. At 8 pm both tonight, May 11 and Saturday, May 12 the group will take the stage at The Kitchen (512 W. 19th St., NYC) for two performances of the music of William Brittelle and Mick Barr. May 21 & 22 Roulette presents Eclipse Quartet. Described as 'an all-female, musical powerhouse comprised of award winning musicians, Eclipse Quartet will present two fascinating evenings of programming featuring the New York premiere of Roscoe Mitchell's 9/9/99 version II, Morton Feldman's epic Piano and String Quartet, 1985 (featuring guest pianist Vicki Ray), String Quartet 1931 by Ruth Crawford Seeger, Amazing Grace by Ben Johnston and, the New York premiere of Sean Heim's No Quartet. The fearless repertoire encompasses a wide spectrum of styles, the first night a courageous journey of color and minimalism as the quartet share the stage with pianist Vicki Ray, one of the leading interpreters of contemporary piano music, to perform one of Feldmans last, intense and meditative pieces, and the second night diving deeply into the surreal and improvisational world of iconic musician and composer Roscoe Mitchell.'

In a career spanning three decades, the American choreographer Karole Armitage has continuously bridged contemporary ballet with the worlds of visual art and fashion. Luminaries such as Jeff Koons, David Salle, Philip Taaffe and Brice Marden have created sets and costumes for her dances. She is described as 'pioneering in her valorization of voguing, creating the video for Madonna's 'Vogue' in 1992 and serving on the jury of many of New York's underground voguing balls, elaborate early 1980s events in which 'walkers' competed in a series of categories emulating high fashion, style or a ways of being.'

Just added to the April schedule of FREE events at the David Rubenstein Atrium at Lincoln Center is the return of the acclaimed Unsound Festival New York on April 19 with "Interzone." The Target® Free Thursdays concert, at a special time, 7:30 p.m., features two exciting duo projects that explore the edges of sound, melding psychedelic, rock, dub, and other influences in engaging new ways: Polish duo LXMP, (pictured, right) making their U.S. debut, and American duo Peaking Lights. And in honor of Tartan Day, Meet the Artist Saturdays' April 7 program, Heartbeat of the Highlands will feature the dazzling Scottish dancers of Shot of Scotch (pictured, left) in a one-hour family program.
NYC Opera's VOX Returns in 2012-13 as Part of OPERA America's New Works Forum

New York City Opera announces that VOX, the company's workshop for new American operas, will be presented in conjunction with OPERA America's New Works Forum for New York City Opera's 2012-13 season. Composers are invited to submit works-in-progress or completed, previously unproduced works to this year's showcase, which will have a public performance on November 8 (eligibility requirements are listed below, with further details still to be announced). Since 1999, composers Mark Adamo, Charles Wuorinen, Richard Danielpour, John Zorn, and Stephen Schwartz are among those who have had pieces presented in VOX that have gone on to redefine the American opera genre. VOX, described by the New York Times as an "invaluable showcase," gives American composers and audiences the opportunity to hear professional performances of excerpts of new operatic works, unstaged and read by members of the New York City Opera orchestra and soloists. As the only program in the country that gives composers the opportunity to hear their new works and works-in-progress with full instrumental ensembles and professional soloists, VOX continues to be a vital part of the fabric of American opera.
Christian Marclay to Join Bang on a Can All-Stars 4/28

New York-based visual artist and composer Christian Marclay will be onstage with the Bang on a Can All-Stars at Lincoln Center on April 28 for the U.S. premiere of Field Recordings, a major nine-composer multimedia project that uses film, found sound, and archival audio and video (enhanced by conceptual set designer Jim Findlay) to build a bridge between the seen and unseen, the here and the absent, the present and the past.
