He convinced the 1st Massachusetts Regiment of Volunteers that he was old enough to fight in the war against Mexico. Dwight served with honor through the war narrowly avoiding capture and certain death. He returned home and mended the strained relations with his family, but after several years, he felt that he had to leave again. I am enormously thrilled that Strathmore took this one on. It's not the kind of event the largely classical venue usually presents and I hope to see more risk-taking in the future. The pieces offer up stories that need to be heard, and there's no denying the music and performers are first rate.
