TSO Announces HOME ALONE IN CONCERT and More

The month of December is the perfect time to share the joy of music with family and friends at the Toronto Symphony Orchestra (TSO). The holiday season kicks off November 28-December 2 with Tchaikovsky for the Holidays. Korean-Canadian Earl Lee (the TSO's former RBC Resident Conductor) leads this showcase of works by the beloved Russian composer, which includes Tchaikovsky's majestic Fourth Symphony and a generous serving of excerpts from The Nutcracker.

BWW Review: STAR WARS: A NEW HOPE IN CONCERT, Royal Albert Hall

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away… Star Wars celebrated its 40th anniversary last year, and the first instalment in the multi-trilogy film series has now made its way to the Royal Albert Hall as part of its ongoing 'film in concert' series. It also follows hot on the heels of a concert in the same venue dedicated to the work of composer John Williams, bringing the London Symphony Orchestra back (under the conductorship of Ludwig Wicki) to perform this iconic music once again.

Pacific Chorale Celebrates The Holidays With Concerts

December 2018 will see Orange County's Pacific Chorale give voice to the holiday spirit with two contrasting concerts: "Carols by Candlelight" at Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Newport Beach and "Tis the Season!" at Segerstrom Center for the Arts' Renee and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall in Costa Mesa. The first of the two "Tis the Season!" performances will be followed by the Chorale's annual Holiday Gala fundraising dinner, "Imagine, Inspire, Create," at The Center Club, located just across the Argyros Plaza from the concert hall.

Hollywood Bowl Named Top Amphitheater at Billboard Live Music Awards

The Hollywood Bowl, one of the leading outdoor music venues in the world, managed by the Los Angeles Philharmonic Association, was honored as Top Amphitheater at the Billboard Live Music Awards, on Tuesday night at the Montage Beverly Hills. The Billboard Live Music Awards honor the top tours, festivals, venues, executives, and touring artists in music. This distinction marks the second consecutive Billboard Live Music Award for the iconic venue.

BPO Will Perform HARRY POTTER AND THE SORCERER'S STONE IN CONCERT at Shea's Performing Arts Center

The Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra and Shea's Performing Arts Center announced today a collaboration to present Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone in Concert on Thursday, February 21 as part of the Harry Potter Film Concert Series. The concert will feature the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra performing live, to picture, every note from Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone and take place at the original "Wonder Theatre" that opened in 1926 as a movie palace. Audiences will be able to relive the magic of the entire film in high-definition on a 40-foot screen while hearing the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra perform John Williams' unforgettable score live. LA Children's Chorus Rings In The Holidays With Winter Concert

Los Angeles Children's Chorus (LACC), one of the world's leading children's choirs, celebrates the holidays with its annual Winter Concert, entitled "Winter Wonderland: Sounds of the Season," which marks the first stand-alone program led by the Chorus' new Artistic Director, Fernando Malvar-Ruiz, on two consecutive Sundays, December 9 and 16, 2018, at 7:30 pm, at Pasadena Presbyterian Church. Some 250 choristers are featured in the multi-media vocal program, which is geared for people of all ages and includes an array of favorite carols, seasonal songs from Venezuela and winter-themed works by Bach, Kodaly, Elgar, Verdi, Saint-Saens and others.

LA Opera's HANSEL AND GRETEL Features 39 Members Of LA Children's Chorus

Some 39 members of Los Angeles Children's Chorus (LACC), one of the world's leading children's choirs, are featured in LA Opera's production of Humperdinck's enchanting Hansel and Gretel conducted by James Conlon and starring mezzo-soprano Susan Graham (The Witch), mezzo-soprano Sasha Cooke (Hansel) and soprano Liv Redpath (Gretel). The production runs for six performances from November 17 to December 15, 2018, at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. LACC's new Artistic Director, Fernando Malvar-Ruiz, prepared the young choristers for their roles as the gingerbread children, noted for the purity of their sound and intricate four-part harmony. A perennial favorite, Hansel and Gretel, based on the beloved Brothers Grimm tale and sung in English, features a magical score and plot and is considered to be the composer's best-known work. 

Cincinnati Pops Orchestra to Release Latest Album, American Originals: 1918 on Today

The Cincinnati Pops Orchestra announced the November 9 release of its latest album, American Originals: 1918, under the direction of Pops Conductor John Morris Russell. The recording is inspired by America's cultural awakening at the end of the First World War one hundred years ago and the distinctly American musical styles that reflect the country's diversity. This album celebrates and reimagines popular songs of this era that remain fresh and relevant today with acclaimed musical collaborators including Rhiannon Giddens, Steep Canyon Rangers and Pokey LaFarge. The 95th Cincinnati Pops album was recorded live at Cincinnati Music Hall November 10- 12, 2017, and is being released on the Orchestra's label, Fanfare Cincinnati.

Utah Symphony Performs The Third Installment In The Harry Potter Film Concert Series

The Harry Potter Film Concert Series returns to Abravanel Hall with "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" in Concert, the third film in the Harry Potter series. On November 29, 30 and December 1, guest conductor Justin Freer will conduct the Utah Symphony in performing this magical score live from "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" while the entire film plays in high-definition on a 40-foot screen. December Shows Announced At The Moonlight Amphitheatre

Moonlight Presents offers two holiday events in December at the Moonlight Amphitheatre. Sponsored by Dr. Bronner's, the shows include the Doo Wop Project Christmas, featuring stars of Broadway's "Jersey Boys" and "Motown: the Musical," on Sat., Dec. 1 at 7:30 p.m. Amongst the singers is San Diego native Charl Brown who began his musical theatre journey as a student at the San Diego School of Creative and Performing Arts. He would go on to appearing in a number of shows locally, including The Moonlight's "Ragtime" in 2002, before going on to Broadway. Tickets are priced $15 - $40. On Sat., Dec. 8, experience the holiday favorite "Home Alone" on a big screen with pre-movie activities including a snow play area for the kids. Tickets are $5 or $10. The Chamber Orchestra Of Philadelphia Presents The Second Concert Of The 2018/2019 Migrations Season

The Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia (COP) explores the sound of the pipa alongside familiar European repertoire with works of Mozart and Dvo?ak. These works for strings by master composers are followed by a traditional Chinese tune arranged by COP's own Dirk Brosse. The Pipa is showcased alongside the Chamber Orchestra's sound in Lou Harrison's Concerto for Pipa with String Orchestra. Wu Man will also first introduce us to the instrument by playing a solo piece for the Pipa in the intimate setting of the Perelman Theater.

Jennifer Gersten Wins 2018 Rubin Prize in Music Criticism

The San Francisco Conservatory of Music (SFCM) today announces the winners of the 2018 Stephen and Cynthia Rubin Institute for Music Criticism. Jennifer Gersten, a DMA candidate at Stony Brook University, was chosen by a panel of leading national music critics to receive the $10,000 Rubin Prize in Music Criticism for demonstrating outstanding promise in music criticism. Brin Solomon, an MFA candidate at New York University, was selected as runner-up and received a $1,000 award. As part of the Rubin Institute's mission to advance and maintain qualitative discourse on music, the two cash prizes are intended to support further endeavors in the field of music criticism.

The HK Phil Hosts Halloween Party With Magician Harry Gor Gor

"Trick or treat?" It's time to party in the wicked fun Halloween feast hosted by the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra (HK Phil)! On 27 & 28 October, "magician" Harry Wong (or Harry Gor Gor) and conductor Lio Kuok-man will conjure up some of the creepiest classical music and also spooky theme songs from all-time favourite movies, taking us to a wild and bizarre world of mischievous witches, orgiastic goblins, grinning pumpkins, headless horsemen and dangling skeletons in the Tsuen Wan Town Hall Auditorium.
