NJPAC to Welcome Beres Hammond, 8/23

Nicholas McGegan Conducts Handel's SAMSON at Alice Tully Hall Tonight

Tonight, March 4, 2014 at 8:00pm at Alice Tully Hall, British conductor and early music specialist Nicholas McGegan leads Handel's Samson. He will be joined by soloists Thomas Cooley (Samson), Megan Chartrand (Dalila), Virginia Warnken (Micah), John Taylor Ward (Manoa) and Andrew Padgett (Harapha) and the American Classical Orchestra.

American Classical Orchestra Kicks Off HANDELFEST with Family Concert Today

Join the American Classical Orchestra for HANDELFEST, the first festival event from ACO that celebrates the music of Handel during the month of March. The festivities get under way with a family-friendly concert at the Church of the Blessed Sacrament (152 W 71st St) featuring some of Handel's most uplifting works. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased by calling 212-362-2727.

Carrie White, Author of “Upper Cut,” Set To Receive Writers In Treatment Award

Writers In Treatment will honor Carrie White, Hollywood hairdresser to the stars and the author of "Upper Cut,' with the 'Experience, Strength and Hope' Award on Thursday, February 13, 2014 at the Skirball Cultural Center. Ed Begley Jr. will host the event and actress Joanna Cassidy ("Body of Proof," "Six Feet Under") will present the award to Carrie White. The evening will also feature a hilarious performance by stand-up comedian Alonzo Bodden (winner of "Last Comic Standing," frequent guest on NPR's "Wait Wait...Don't Tell Me") as well as a special guest appearance by actress and recovery advocate Mackenzie Phillips.

Walsh Art Gallery and Bellarmine Museum of Art present concurrent exhibitions, 'Reflections and Undercurrents: Ernest Roth and Printmaking in Venice, 1900-1940, at the Walsh Art Gallery,' and 'In the Wake of the Butterfly: James McNeill Whistler and His Circle in Venice, at the Bellarmine Museum of Art,' with both shows on view today, January 23 through April 4, 2014.

Best Films of 2013 to Screen in THE CONTENDERS at MoMA, 11/4-1/16

The Museum of Modern Art announces a selection of films and special guests for the 2013 lineup of The Contenders, MoMA's annual end-of-the-year series that offers filmgoers the opportunity to see a wide spectrum of influential and innovative films released within the last 12 months. The Contenders 2013 runs from November 4, 2013, through January 16, 2014, in The Roy and Niuta Titus Theaters.

Dallas Theater Center presents Neil Simon's classic American comedy, The Odd Couple, directed by DTC Artistic Director Kevin Moriarty. When two men with struggling relationships, neat and particular Felix Ungar and disheveled and rough-edged Oscar Madison, decide to live together, the results are funny and poignant. The Odd Couple opens with previews tonight, March 15 and runs through Sunday, April 14 at the Dee and Charles Wyly Theatre in the AT&T Performing Arts Center.

Duran Duran's John Taylor Accepts WIT's Experience, Strength, & Hope Award

Global musical phenomenon John Taylor, the co-founder and bassist of Duran Duran and today a critically acclaimed author was honored with Writers In Treatment's Experience, Strength and Hope Award on Friday night during a celebratory evening hosted by Writers In Treatment with support from New Directions for Women. Actor Robert Downey, Jr. presented the award to his friend Taylor. Host Ed Begley, Jr., headline performer Bobcat Goldthwait, actress Ione Skye and singer Divina also paid tribute to Taylor during the starry event held at the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles.
