The Black Movie Awards (BMA) to Return For The 2014 Awards Season

The ABFF (American Black Film Festival) today announced that it is reviving the Black Movie Awards (BMA), which recognizes and celebrates the accomplishments of persons of African descent in the motion picture industry, as an Internet-based awards presentation.

Taraji P. Henson to Star in World Premiere of ABOVE THE FOLD at Pasadena Playhouse, Begin. 1/28

The Pasadena Playhouse announced Academy Award and Emmy nominee Taraji P. Henson (Starred on "Person of Interest" on CBS, "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" and new "No Good Deed" oppsite Idris Elba) to star as "Jane" in the World Premiere of ABOVE THE FOLD, the fourth production of its 2013 - 2014 Season. Written by Bernard Weinraub and directed by Steven Robman, ABOVE THE FOLD plays January 28 - February 23, 2014. Opening night is February 2, 2014.

Angela Bassett to Host 2013 Hollywood Bowl Opening, 6/22

Actress Angela Bassett has been confirmed to host the 2013 Opening Night at the Hollywood Bowl, Saturday, June 22, at 8 pm. Also confirmed, talk show host/comedian Arsenio Hall will induct Patti Austin into the Hollywood Bowl Hall of Fame that evening. Bassett and Hall join the star-studded lineup of participants for the special evening: in addition to Austin, Steven Tyler and Joe Perry of Aerosmith and John Legend will be inducted into the Hollywood Bowl Hall of Fame; Stevie Wonder will induct John Legend; and Darren Criss will perform, then introduce the Youth Orchestra LA (YOLA) student performance. Each inductee will perform with the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, led by Thomas Wilkins.

Raleigh Studios' Chaplin Theater To Host The HOLLYWOOD NETWORKING BREAKFAST, 3/28

The Hollywood Networking Breakfast (HNB) was founded on the Paramount Studios Lot in 1993 by Sandra Lord, as a means to providing opportunities for industry professionals and emerging talent. Paramount Studios served as the event's home base for almost 12 years. Some of the most respected individuals, both in front of the camera and behind the scenes, have offered patrons insight and advice. Backstage named the HNB "The Best Networking Event in L.A." in its "Best of LA" issue, a title that has continued to hold true. For the last 19 years the event has hosted Academy, Golden Globe, Peabody and Emmy Award winners and nominees, as well as top Hollywood Studio Heads and Production Company Presidents. Exhibition of American Drawings Begins 3/8 at the Brooklyn Museum

Fine Lines: American Drawings from the Brooklyn Museum, the first exhibition presented in the newly renovated Robert E. Blum Gallery on the first floor, presents a selection of more than a hundred rarely seen drawings and sketchbooks produced between 1768 and 1945 from the Brooklyn Museum's exceptional collection. The exhibition will feature the work of more than seventy artists, including John Singleton Copley, Stuart Davis, Thomas Eakins, William Glackens, Marsden Hartley, Winslow Homer, Edward Hopper, Eastman Johnson, Georgia O'Keeffe, John Singer Sargent, and Benjamin West. Among the works on display will be Gaston Lachaise's Back of a Nude Woman (1929), Winslow Homer's Two Girls in Field (1871), and William Merritt Chase's Shinnecock Hills (circa 1895). Investigating the place of drawing within the broader history of American art before 1945, Fine Lines showcases a variety of subjects, styles, and practices and demonstrates the variety and vitality of the graphic arts in America across nearly two centuries.
