Jazz Stories combines the swinging exciting music with legend Bernard Purdie and company plus some great stories retold by David Haney.  Haney talked to each of these artists and had them to recount the following stories for Cadence Magazine: Sonny Rollins, The Bridge Story; John McLaughlin's story about recording with Miles Davis; Annie Ross Meets Sarah Vaughan, Gunter Hampel remembers Thelonious Monk; Steve Swallow recalls his trip to Jamaica with Herbie Nichols; Dominic Duval on Charles Mingus; and of course Bernard Purdie breaks down the Purdie Shuffle.

Chick Corea Celebrates 75th Birthday With Globe Spanning Tour

Corea has spent 50 years on the world's most venerated stages, playing with a pantheon of fellow-traveling musical compatriots, and now he's packing it all into one year. For 2016, he's lined up an Iron-Man marathon of tour dates, literally circling the globe: Phoenix to Minneapolis to Naples to Stuttgart to Tokyo to Beijing to Honolulu and back to LA.

New Musical DREAMLAND Set for NoHo Arts Center This Weekend

Dreamland, a new musical conceived, written, composed by 14-time Emmy Award winner John Francis Smith with daughter Asia Ray Smith, will have its first ever "off-book" staged performances at the NoHo Arts Center Friday, June 17 at 8:00 pm; and Saturday, June 18 at 2:00 and 8:00 pm.  The production is also produced by Smith.  Robert Arnold directs, with musical direction by Christian Regul and Jake Anthony (who also serves as vocal director).

Ehrenkranz Artistic Director Jane Moss today announced the schedule for Lincoln Center's seventh White Light Festival, running from October 16 through November 16, 2016. The international multidisciplinary festival, which takes its name from a quotation by the Estonian composer Arvo Part, is an annual exploration of the power of art to illuminate our interior and communal lives. 'I could compare my music to white light which contains all colors. Only a prism can divide the colors and make them appear; this prism could be the spirit of the listener.' - Arvo Part

Zakir Hussain Coming to Harris Center, 3/30

It was his father who, with Ravi Shankar, brought the glorious music of India to America.  And now, Zakir Hussain, the reigning master virtuoso of the tabla, brings Masters of Percussion to the Harris Center for the Arts for one performance only on Wednesday, March 30th. Flamenco Guitar Player Vicente Amigo to Perform at Carnegie Hall, 3/4

Vicente Amigo, the composer, producer, and master of flamenco guitar noted for his creativity and inventiveness within the flamenco tradition, appears at Carnegie Hall on Friday, March 4 at 8:00 p.m. in Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage. Over the years, Amigo has performed in sold-out halls throughout the country, but this concert is part of his first major tour of the United States.
