On last night's TONIGHT SHOW, guest Jason Sudeikis is freaking out over remembering his lines as John Keating in the new New York production of DEAD POETS SOCIETY.

While the work of director John Doyle has been a frequent presence at Classic Stage Company for the past few years, his tenure as the company's artistic director gets off to an impressive start this season with a crisp and engaging world premiere production of Tom Schulman's DEAD POETS SOCIETY.

Classic Stage Company presents Dead Poets Society, a new play based on the beloved 1989 film, starring Jason Sudeikis as John Keating. Performances for Dead Poets Society celebrates its official press opening tonight, November 17, at CSC (136 East 13th Street) and will play a limited engagement extended through Sunday, December 18.

Irish Repertory Theatre presents the world premiere of THE PIGEON IN THE Taj Mahal, by Laoisa Sexton. Directed by Alan Cox (Black Snow), THE PIGEON IN THE Taj Mahal begins performances tonight, November 16, 2016 at Irish Rep Theatre (132 West 22nd Street) in the W. Scott McLucas Studio Theatre and officially opens on November 27, running through December 31, 2016.

In response to popular demand, The Pearl Theatre Company extends the U.S. Premiere of Henrik Ibsen's Public Enemy, in a version by internationally acclaimed Scottish playwright David Harrower. Directed by the Pearl's Artistic Director Hal Brooks, the production will now run through November 6.

Greenburger Mainstage will be FINIAN'S RAINBOW, adapted and directed by Irish Rep Artistic Director Charlotte Moore, and starring Melissa Errico ('Billions', Encores! Do I Hear A Waltz?), who will reprise her role from the acclaimed 2004 production.

Written by Academy Award winner Tom Schulman, adapted from his screenplay, and directed by John Doyle, Dead Poets Society is set at a rigorous all-boys preparatory school renowned for its ancient traditions, where the unconventional Professor Keating inspires his students to defy conformity, and to live passionately. Performances for Dead Poets Society will begin Thursday, October 27 at CSC (136 East 13thStreet) with an official press opening Thursday, November 17. As I scoured the Capital Fringe listings for 2016, two shows caught my interest. While both RAIN FOLLOWS THE PLOW and ROMANOV both musicalize moments in history and showcase some serious songwriting skills and musicianship, they couldn't be more different from one another stylistically. While there is considerable room for both shows to grow, a future life for both of them is definitely possible due to the strong central concepts, creativity and musical bases.

Musical Theatre Artists of Pittsburgh's Hot Metal Musicals Incubator will be relaunched this summer with  two free public readings. The Incubator, aimed at helping creative teams move their work forward by thrusting it in front of an audience, will kick-off Monday, June 27, 2016 with Dear Boy, book and lyrics by Jeanne Drennan and music by David Berlin, followed by Me, Myself and Others by Eva Rainforth on Monday, August 29, 2016. Both will be presented at CLO's Charles Gray Auditorium at 7:00 pm.

Jeffrey Horowitz, Theatre for a New Audience Founding Artistic Director, has just announced an extension of PERICLES through Sunday, April 10 at Polonsky Shakespeare Center, 262 Ashland Place, due to wide acclaim and box office demand. PERICLES by William Shakespeare, with music composed by Shaun Davey and directed by Trevor Nunn, features OBIE Award-winner Christian Camargo in the title role and leading a company of 22 actors.

Fallen Angel Theatre Company (Aedin Moloney, Producing Artistic Director) today announced their next production: the Off-Broadway Premiere of Sharman Macdonald's When I Was A Girl I Used To Scream and Shout, a bittersweet and bitingly funny examination of mother/daughter turmoil. Performances will begin April 14th and continues through May 8th at Theatre Row's Clurman Theatre.
