Following sold-out shows at its community-based theatre and cultural center in Jenin Refugee Camp, Palestine, Freedom Theatre performs the renowned South African anti-apartheid play 'The Island' at Georgetown University's Davis Performing Arts Center, Devine Studio Theatre on Monday, Sept. 16 and Tuesday, Sept. 17 at 7:30 p.m., as part of its inaugural U.S. tour. This historic event is presented by the Laboratory for Global Performance and Politics, (The Lab), an initiative of the Georgetown University Theater and Performance Studies Program and the Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service. The play will be performed in English.

After an April premiere in New York City, the actors, musicians, and theatre artists from the world-renowned Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) will come to Columbus to perform an exclusive engagement of its production of Julius Caesar. Interpreted with a new twist by the RSC's new artistic director Gregory Doran, the production is set in present-day Africa with a cast of highly acclaimed, black British actors and live, contemporary West African music composed for the show by Akintayo Akinbode. The production opened to five-star reviews in the UK last year, going on to tour the UK and perform in Moscow before its two upcoming U.S. engagements.

Today, February 1, tickets go on sale for the world-renowned Royal Shakespeare Company's critically acclaimed production of Julius Caesar. The production, directed with a new twist by the RSC's new Artistic Director Gregory Doran, is set in present-day Africa with a cast of highly acclaimed, black British actors and live, contemporary West African music, fostering the resonance of this classic tragedy. Having opened to five-starreviews in the UK last year, the Columbus run is the production's only North American engagement following its New York City premiere in April.

Lantern Theater Company concludes its best-selling season in company history with The Island, a play by renowned South African collaborators Athol Fugard, John Kani and Winston Ntshona, directed by Peter DeLaurier and starring Philadelphia actors Frank X and U.R. A vivid portrayal of apartheid-era struggle and political oppression, The Island is a fitting bookend for a season which started with the provocative religious drama New Jerusalem. The Island runs from tonight, May 17-June 10(press opening: May 23, 7 p.m.).
