Classical Theatre Company Tackles Big Issues With AN ENEMY OF THE PEOPLE

Classical Theatre Company returns to the great Henrik Ibsen for the first time since their critically-acclaimed 2016 production of A Doll's House. Ibsen is known for his no-holds-barred critique of the world in particular, society around him, and An Enemy of the People follows that same course.

Jacob Heinz Directs 2017 Production of SPIRIT in Adams

As you sit on the grounds of the farm that once belonged to the Bell family, the annual dramatization of their haunting story Spirit will take you on an eerily captivating journey that began in 1804. That's when John Bell uprooted his family and moved to a beautiful area on the Red River, now known as Adams, unaware that the grounds were already occupied by the later-coined Bell Witch.

Classical Theatre Co Kicks Off Season with MRS. WARREN'S PROFESSION

Fighting off the repercussions from Hurricane Harvey, Classical Theatre Company returns to the great George Bernard Shaw for this first time since producing the smash hit Candida back in 2011. Regarded by many to be the second finest author in the English language, Shaw is well known for his wordsmithing and wit. His keen ear and ability to recreate the voices of those he encountered and brought to life on the page are without peer.

BWW Review: THE LYING KIND, Tron Theatre, Glasgow

Constables Blunt and Gobbel have one last duty to fulfil before they clock off on Christmas Eve: to tell the old couple at number 58 some terrible, terrible news. But what if the shock is too much for the frail pair to bear? Maybe they'd be better off not knowing. And maybe the hapless constables would be better off if they hadn't got themselves stuck in the middle of a lynching organized by a group of anti-paedophile vigilantes.

Classical Theatre Company presents THE BARBER OF SEVILLE

Most everyone is familiar with the opera The Barber of Seville by Gioachino Rossini, but few know that the opera is based on the 1775 play by Pierre-Augustin Caron de Beaumarchais. In fact, the play has never before been professionally produced in Houston's long history. Beaumarchais' play is the origin for such iconic characters as Count Almaviva, Bartholo, Rosine, and of course, Figaro. 'This piece of theatre is so ripe with comedy that it directly spawned two operas, three plays, and a comic strip,' says director John Johnston. 'I'm thrilled to be able to produce Barber. It's one of those forgotten scripts that I've been champing at the bit to direct.' The hilarious love story of the dashing Count Almaviva as he woos the sweet and beautiful Rosine, all the while facilitated by the clown Figaro is sure to have audiences rolling in the aisles. 'And the chance to bring it to our Houston audiences, who will have never seen it before, particularly excites me.'

Classical Theatre Company Presents THE GHOST SONATA by August Strindberg

Following 2012's production of Miss Julie, Classical Theatre Company will produce its second play by the Swedish great August Strindberg in The Ghost Sonata. This dark examination of family was originally produced in 1908 and has disturbed audiences ever since. "Strindberg had a very unhappy family life - particularly his childhood. This play was his attempt to exorcise those ghosts through this supernatural drama," says CTC chief John Johnston. "We're excited to bring this rarely produced play to our Houston audiences. We've done a good job over the years in exposing our audiences to age-old plays that they've never seen on stage before. Most theatergoers are familiar with his other plays like Miss Julie, The Father, or A Dream Play, but The Ghost Sonata was his last great play, and perhaps his most overlooked."
