RECKLESS, by Craig Lucas, wants to be a black comedy. The script, written in a cinematographic style, poses some serious problems in staging. For something so paper thin to work, the audience needs to go on the same nightmare downhill sleigh ride as the protagonist. We need to feel as buffeted by the play itself as she does by the events of the play. Unfortunately, the staging of this production is weighed down by numerous lengthy scene changes on what is a minimalistic set. These numerous changes bog the evening down and what should be a barrage of insanity ends up being a few humorous moments. The cartoon craziness this script cries out for never really happens.

Atlantic Theater Company (Neil Pepe, Artistic Director; Jeffory Lawson, Managing Director) just announced complete casting for the American premiere of Dying For It, by Moira Buffini, freely adapted from Nikolai Erdman's The Suicide, directed by Neil Pepeand featuring the celebrated ensemble cast of Mia Barron, Ben Beckley, Nathan Dame, Patch Darragh, Clea Lewis, Peter Maloney, Andrew Mayer, Mary Beth Peil, Jeanine Serralles, Joey Slotnick, Robert Stanton and C.J. Wilson.

The 44th season at Kumu Kahua Theatre continues with a world premiere of a new Susan Soon He Stanton play. Susan also wrote Whatever Happened to John Boy Kihano' and The Art of Preservation, both of which also premiered at Kumu Kahua Theatre.

John Guare has written a new play commemorating the 30th Anniversary of Rockwell Group. Between, a new 10-minute play, will have its world premiere performance on Monday, November 3 at NeueHouse at an event celebrating the launch of the forthcoming book, What If… ?: The Architecture and Design of David Rockwell. Jack O'Brien directs the performance, which will star Stockard Channing and Mr. Guare himself. The full text of the play is included in the new book.

Chicago's Eclipse Theatre Company, the Midwest's only theatre company to focus on a single playwright each season, will feature the works of award-winning American playwright Terrence McNally for their 2015 Season. Eclipse will explore the range of McNally's output with three full productions, plus readings and public events about the playwright.

The American Repertory Theater (A.R.T.) at Harvard University, under the leadership of Diane Paulus, Artistic Director and William Russo, Managing Director; announced today that the 2014 recipient of the annual Robert Brustein Award is Rocco Landesman, a long-time Broadway theatre producer, who served as chairman of the National Endowment for the Arts from August 2009 to December 2012.

The Guthrie Theater held a cocktail party in New York City this week to celebrate Joe Dowling and his final season at the theater. He leaves in June 2015 after 20 years and as the longest Artistic Director in the theater's history. The Shakespeare Guild's 2014-15 season will open with a conversation that will launch the U.S. author tour for a biography that actress Helen Mirren calls 'a masterpiece about a genius.' Only John Lahr, she says, 'with his perceptions about the theater, about writers, about poetry, and about people, could have written this book.'
